"Ok ok, you guys go to school, don't tell anyone or show anyone that you're gay, and whoever loses gives the other money. And I get some too." Leo proposed. 

Nico and will shared a glance, shrugging. 

"Sure, whatever." Nico slurred. 

One of the many mistakes he made while high.

The next week they started high school. Sophomore year, at some high school in New York.  

Will was kind to everyone, got in with popular kids, and was soon one of the most loved boys in the school. 

Nico blended right in with the nobodies, and the only time anyone had ever noticed him was when Leo payed him to wear eyeliner. Even then, his fluffy hair covered his eyes, so it was only noticed by a girl he passed in the hall. 

He stuck to a black wardrobe, baggy jeans, big t-shirts. Nothing extravagant. Nothing noticeable. No blinding smile like Will, no waving to kids he didn't know, no standing up to bullies. He only spoke when spoken too.  Nico picked will up 3 blocks down from school, to avoid suspicion. 

They were strangers. And they hated it. 

One night there was a close call. A party almost caused the downfall of their secret life.

Will had decided that things were boring, so he threw a party. 

Nico however did not know about this party, and woke up to blaring music coming from the downstairs of his apartment. He sat up, rubbed his eyes, and texted will.

'Wtf.'

'Party.'Was all will said.  

"fuuuuck." Nico groaned, rolling out of the bed. He needed to get out without being seen, and opted for the fire escape. He crawled out the window onto the small landing, and climbed down the ladder to the lower level. There were kids, the other nobodies, smoking out there, but they didn't notice Nico. He peeped into the windows for a second, seeing his house full of strangers, and left. 

He spent the night at camp that night, low key pissed at Will. Will knew bright lights and loud noises, large crowds and people he doesn't know freak Nico out. He gets overwhelmed. Some people may pass it off as being introverted, but Nico knew it was worse than that. (I kinda have this headcannon that nico is autistic, but low on the spectrum. Idk.)

It was that faithful night at camp, when piper was drunk, and she kissed Nico. The reason is unknown, maybe she was testing her gayness, maybe she was testing his gayness, we'll never know. 

But it caused problems in will and Nico's relationship. 

The day started out as any other day. Nico dropped will of 3blocks away from the school and drove the rest of the way. They started their classes, sat on opposite sides of the cafeteria, the usual. They had pe together, and that's when it started. 

Regular gym class. Hey played dodge ball and finished with laps. Pretty simple. Then, they went to the locker rooms. 

Nico and will were the first ones to finish with laps so they were the first ones in there.
