Shouta was up and out of his house as soon as he got Hitoshi's call. First, it was because he thought Hitoshi and Izuku got involved in a villain attack, and Izuku jumped in and got injured again. Then it was because he trusted his instincts that something else had gone wrong on Izuku’s side which was the reason Hitoshi was calling.
Shouta rubbed his eyes, he was in the middle of a nap when Hitoshi called but he needed to be awake for this. He'll need some caffeine.
There wasn’t a villain attack, which somehow gave Shouta an even worse headache because the kid had gone missing. He hadn’t shown up and it had been an hour since Hitoshi was excessively texting him and pacing outside of the cafe.
Shouta doesn’t blame him. If it had been anyone else, Shouta would have dismissed it as tardiness or him being busy with something else but this was Izuku. Shouta doesn't know why but he just can’t bring himself to think the kid would just drop the hangout he initiated for something else.
Shouta remembers what the kid has said before and doesn’t appear to have many friends so it would make sense for him to arrive on time, if not early. After meeting the kid multiple times, Shouta figures the kid would rather jump out of a window to get there on time instead of sitting and waiting for whatever he had going on to end.
Izuku can defend himself well from what he’s seen though, so Shouta isn’t too worried, but there’s always that possibility of him being in a situation where he can’t. He’s still a kid, after all. Not to mention he’s quirkless. There might be people in his life who use his quirklessness as a reason to mistreat him and he might not be able to defend himself if the odds are against him. Shouta hopes that that isn’t the case but he’ll be damned if he doesn’t do everything in his power to make sure the kid is safe. Shouta had planned on doing a background check on the kid to make sure he was safe at home soon, but he supposes he’ll be doing that today.
But first, he needs to make sure Hitoshi isn't working himself into an anxiety attack. He’s come a long way ever since Shouta and Hizashi adopted him but he still has instances where he thinks too much and his negative thoughts get the best of him.
After that, he’ll ring up Tsukauchi and see if he can get the kid’s address or better yet, location if he has his phone on him and for some reason can’t reply. Shouta doesn’t want to invade the kid’s privacy like this but his safety comes first.
He found Hitoshi in the cafe staring at his phone, his cup of coffee untouched. He looked worried but other than that, he seemed fine.
Hitoshi slumped in his seat upon seeing him and started asking questions immediately after Shouta reached the table he was sitting at. “So what do we do? Should we report him missing? Can we do that or do we have to wait for a day? He might be in danger right now, so I think we should report him missing because-” God, these kids.
Shouta rested a hand on his shoulder. “It’s alright, Hitoshi. Don’t worry too much, I’ll see what I can do.”
He quietened for a few seconds before, “...I could try and find him? Maybe he’s out in the open? I can look around and see if he is?” While that is a possibility, Shouta doesn’t want Hitoshi to stumble upon a villain and get hurt.
“Izuku is gonna be fine, you’ve seen him fight before, haven’t you? He can defend himself extremely well, he’ll be fine.” Hitoshi looked unconvinced still but gave a hesitant nod and picked up his phone. To text Izuku again, probably.
Shouta sighed and took out his own phone, about to call Tsukauchi when someone tapped on his shoulder. He spared a glance behind him, irritated because he did not have time for this, and recognized one of them as the barista.
