Huening Kai finds out their next event is sports day, and given his condition they had excused him meanwhile Yeonjun requested to participate. The man was literally dying to take part and compete, move and do work and waste their energy.
Why would you do stuff that exhausts you? Kai has no idea but clearly, his 'boyfriend' doesn't share his thoughts, if only Soobin would have been here he would have understood.
And no, from last night he isn't really talking to Yeonjun, just the necessary words are exchanged. They both effectively ignore the elephant in the room, the kisses never existed.
That's all ever happened, nothing between them. Kai wanted to be the bigger out of the two and talk it out but after yesterday he got a whiplash of what he means to Yeonjun. Nothing, that's all he ever was, is and will be.
In the sunlight, he watches the athletic blue haired man prance around the ball, passing it to others like a pro. Yeonjun had always been good at everything, what was even Kai thinking.
They weren't on the same page. He considers himself handsome, and confident and hot if you will, not the shy and insecure high school 'Huening Kai' he was before.
Strangely even now, he falls short to Yeonjun and his standards, perhaps Kai was never destined with him at all. Yeonjun was likely playing with now that he looks good and all that, he was just another play toy for the elder.
What a pity and he will show Yeonjun that he isn't affected by it. Yeonjun can go to hell for all he cares. The anger he feels is to mask the pain the thought causes, deep within he is aware of that fact.
Who is he kidding, it hurts like a bitch and Kai is done feeling insecure about it, like a damsel in distress.
He will show Yeonjun that he doesn't care, does that even matter any more since now Yeonjun is a classified, certified asshole in his eyes.
"Point for Yeonjun!" The announcement goes and the blue head blows a kiss to the cheers thrown. It is a group event with individual points given, their duo could have more if Kai would have participated but Whatever he doesn't care about anything anymore.
His phone rings at the right moment when Yeonjun turns to him, but he ignores the stupidly beautiful elder. 'Soobin (. ❛ ᴗ ❛.)' It reads and his face breaks into a thousand mega watt smile, the sun working in his favor.
"Hello Soobinnie hyung" He greets with an enthusiastic tone and feels extremely pleased when the other end greeting is in the same vigor, if not even more and they fall into an easy conversation.
God, he genuinely misses Soobin, the teasing and deep voice.
The sound of honeyed chuckle reaches his ears and he is delighted for that is something really comforting he heard in a long time, well save for kissing Yeonjun after almost drowning and dying.
He still can't process why would Yeonjun die for him, the guy obviously doesn't care. Or maybe he was just trying to work the door, Kai wouldn't know, he got there fast and the scene he arrived in could have different context.
Yeonjun is just so confusing, stupid beautiful bitch.
Another voice shouting into the call brings him back and he realises Beomgyu has just pushed himself into the conversation, and is now screaming on top of his lungs complaining on how Kai never called him after getting there.
He laughs and apologizes but the boy continues with his taunts and threats, yet the fond undertone gives it away. Kai loves his friends.
Just as Huening Kai finishes the call, the whistle is blown and the game is pronounced over, they have lunch now and probably another small game.
They will be preparing for the next day and Kai can't give any other excuses to skip that. Seriously the couple act with Yeonjun sucks, ha hates it. He hates that he likes it, something so unattainable.
"hey, the heart eyes toward Yeonjun had me melting, seriously you guys are so cute!" Brian squeals sliding next to him, "Well what can I say" Kai giggles, fucking giggles. God his inside churns as he mentally cringes nad gags at it but Brian feels all the more pleased so he thinks he did a good job.
"I agree though, man was the best player out there" Brian's boyfriend appears next to them smiling at him kindly with pity shimmering in his eyes.
Kai simply doesn't care about that, he hates sports and is more than happy to sit and be only a spectator, "He is an ace, always was good at sports or just everything in general" He says, adding a dreamy (dramatic)sigh.
He is the most unoriginal actor ever but the couple strangely seems content and look at him with starry eyes that clearly go aww, they are so cute. Kai is having none of that.
Also that revelation left a bitter taste in his tongue, that sucked. He isn't doing that ever again in his life. "That's so cool, but like even if your team was one man work today, I think you guys will rank the highest" Eun says, a hand on Brian's shoulder and Brian nods to that so hard, his head might fall off.
"He was the star though" He says and Kai smiles at them, cause really how does one even respond to that.
"Speaking of him, where is he?" Brian asks looking around, "Oh he must have gone to bring himself some water" Kai says a little nervous, the others see them as a couple and Kai would like to keep it that way, at least until the dreaded contests are over.
"I guess, I'll meet you later Kai!" Brian says cheerfully, the boy was a beacon of light seriously. He could rival the sun by how bright his grin is and the way his eyes crinkled? Absolutely endeared.
Eun looks whipped and Kai doesn't blame him, with a polite wave from the said man, the couple walk away, hand in hand and looking couple in every aspect perfectly.
Yeonjun doesn't approach him at all and directly goes back to the field after the lunch break. Huening Kai feels stupid for waiting, he doesn't even have lunch but clearly the elder doesn't care.
How fucking marvelous.
Kai leaves to the room ignoring as Yeonjun scores a goal again, and the cheers go wild with his name with the same old man they met yesterday with the commentary pouring praises for the boy.
The star? Yeah right, ironically Yeonjun chose to the night that day to him while being a star to everyone else.
