M I N A

"You can just stay here if it's easier for you." I tell Jungkook before I leave for work.

"I'll probably do that. Do you want me to pick up dinner before you get home?" He asks.

"Sure, why not. You can pick this time."

"Sounds good."

"Alright, I'll see you later. Bye Junsu!"

I was actually excited to go to work for once. I finally got a new job. It's a little bit farther from home than my old one, but I think it's worth it. My schedule stayed the same, except I had weekends off now. The pay was a little bit better than my last job too. I could've used the extra cash ever since we started taking care of Junsu.

Jungkook and I are his legal guardians now. Our situation is a bit confusing, but everything's okay for right now. There is no way I could've done this on my own.

Taking care of Junsu is a lot of work, but I look forward to seeing his cute little smile at the end of the day.

I got a new, good job and we're starting to get the hang of things with Junsu.

Maybe this is the turning point.

I was feeding Junsu his lunch while I waited for mine to heat up.

The microwave beeps and I get up to get my food.

Junsu whines, thinking I'm leaving.

"I gotta eat too, buddy." I say to him.

I finished lunch and cleaned up afterwards. I took Junsu to the rug in the living room to let him play for a bit. He's probably gonna need a nap soon.

Suddenly, I hear someone punching in the passcode for the door lock. I was confused. Mina's not supposed to be home for another hour. There's no way that can be her.

I shift over in front of Junsu, keeping my eye on the door.

"Mina? Is that you?" I call before it opens.

It unlocks and swings open. It wasn't Mina. It was an older woman who looked as startled as I did. We both gasped when we made eye contact.

"W-who are you? What are you doing here?" The woman yells at me.

"Who am I? Who are you?!" I grab Junsu just in case.

She looks at me and then at the photos on the wall. Did she have the wrong house? Wait, no, then how did she get in?

"What are you doing in my daughter's house?"

Her daughter...

Is she...Mina's mom?

Uh oh.

What would you think if you saw a random boy in your daughter's apartment, holding a baby? I could only assume what kind of things were going through her head.

"Your daughter? You're Mina's mom?" I ask.

"Yes, but who are you?"

Neither of us had taken a step closer to each other yet.

I let my guard down, easing up.

"My name is Jungkook. Mina and I are good friends." I explain.

She calms down a bit, but she still had questions.

"Is that your baby?"

I had to think of something quick. Mina told me she hadn't told her parents about Junsu yet and she was trying to keep it a secret for as long as possible.

"Yes. This is my son." I say, "Sorry, I didn't know Mina was expecting company. She said I could wait here until she got back from work so we could hang out."

"I didn't tell her I was coming." She says, "I thought she wasn't working right now."

"She actually got a new job recently." I say.

She looks me up and down. Her eyes almost spoke to me, like she was thinking, "What do you know about my daughter?"

"Really? Where does she work now?" She asks.

"Um..." I realize I may be saying too much, "She works at a clothing store near the Olympic Park now."

"Ah, is that so..."

I nod, trying to find some way out of this conversation.

"How old is your son?"

"He's about seven months now."

"What's his name?"

"Junsu."

"Junsu. That's a cute name. Are you looking after him while his...mom is at work?"

She paused like that, probably because she looked down at my hands and I didn't have a wedding ring or anything on.

"Yeah. I'm still in school so we take turns throughout the day."

All of a sudden, Mina walks in, her face in complete shock.

"M-mom! What brings you here?" She stutters.

"Oh, Mina, there you are. I just wanted to stop by and check up on you while we were in town."

"We?" Mina asks.

"Your dad has a few work things to take care of nearby."

"Oh, okay...uh, I see you met my friend Jungkook."

Her mom nods, "Yes, and his son. I was quite surprised when I found him in here."

I laugh nervously, trying to let Mina know I didn't tell her mom the truth just yet.

"Yeah..." Mina laughs too, "He just visits sometimes."

Her mom looks at the watch on her wrist.

"Ah, I should get going. I brought you some fruit, it's on the counter. It was nice meeting you, Jungkook."

Her mom starts to head for the door, but Mina stops her.

"Wait!"

She turns around, confused.

"I have something to tell you, mom."

Mina told her mom that we were taking care of Junsu together. She told her the whole story from beginning to end. I didn't know why she did that at first, but then I realized what she must have been feeling. I wouldn't be able to lie to my mom like that either.

"All of this happened and you're only telling me now?" Her mom was still surprised.

"I know, I'm sorry, it's just I was nervous about how you were gonna react." Mina explains.

Her mom sighs, shaking her head, "You're an adult, Mina. I let you come here and live on your own, I trust you to make your own decisions."

It looked like this wasn't the reaction Mina was expecting.

"I can't force you to do anything, but if you ever need help, you can give me a call, okay?"

Mina nods slowly.

Her mom hugs her before starting for the door again.

"Take care, you two-, er, three." The door shuts with both of us still standing there in shock.

Mina lets out a sigh of relief, "That could've went a lot worse."

"Tell me about it." I say, "Your mom must have thought I broke into your house at first."

Mina chuckles, "You must've thought she was an intruder too."

"Well...that's not important." I brush it off, "I'll go get us some dinner."

"Sounds like a plan."

Mina told her mom about the situation, but she left out most of the parts about me.

I don't know how to tell her.

I should make sure I'm sure about my feelings before I go telling her anything.

I just need some time.
