One month later.....
I still never forgot that day. The day when Hornet told me that my closest friend, Ghost, was dead. It still tore me up on the inside. Brumm or Devine would try to cheer me up, and the Grimmkins would want me to play with them, but no. Nothing worked. I was just very upset on finding out about my friend's death.
Right now, I was in my room, and I happened to look at the charm he'd given me before he went off to fight Radiance. It was a Grimmchild charm. I suppose it came from my father, who was the troupe master of our small group. I sighed and placed it on my bed, and then I took my nail which I usually hung up by my door. I then walked out the door. I didn't even see Brumm as I headed to the tent's exit. "Hello Grimmchild," he said. "Where are you headed?" I turned around when I saw Brumm's face.
"Oh, hey Brumm!" I said quickly. "I'm just heading out for a stroll. I'll be back before supper!" I then walked away, but then Brumm said, "Ok! But be back before supper! You don't want your father waiting on you!" I gave him a thumbs up as I continued out. I waved to a couple of Grimmkin who flew right by me, but then.... my father appeared before me.
Who is he you may ask? My father, who is Grimm, is the leader of the troupe. Shure, we usually come to kingdoms by the call of the Nightmare Lantern, but we just came to Dirtmouth just to take a small break from work in the Nightmare Realm. I don't usually go there, since my father allows me to stay in Hallownest with Ghost, but this time it was different. He looked at me.
"My child! Where are you headed?" he asked me. "I'm just gonna take a small stroll Dad," I said. "I'll be back before supper." I was fixing to head out the door, but my father stopped me again. "Are you thinking about that vessel that finished our ritual? What was his name again.... Ghost?" asked my father. I nodded, not looking up. "I know... you're still upset about your friend's death, and we were upset too when you told us the news. You just need to keep moving forward, and forget about the past," he explained to me.
I looked up at him. "Yeah, you're right," I said. "That's enough living in the past for now." My father winked at me. I then told him I was headed off for that stroll of mine. He wished me off, and I left the tent.
Dirtmouth was still the same, as usual. I said hello to all of the residents who lived in the small town, then I headed into the well. Once I was in the crossroads, I happened to realize that all of the infection was gone. The whole crossroads were badly infected when I was last here. I thought that I would slide on over to Hallownest's Crown, since I really loved the beautiful view of the town from up there.
It was a good thing I got that lantern from Sly, because some parts of the Crystal Peaks were badly dark and hard to see from. I began my journey into the peaks. All of the gems and crystals that surrounded me were absolutely beautiful. I wondered if Ghost felt the same way when he traveled through here.
When I saw a bench, I immediately sat down to take a small break from my travels so far. I could hear the sound of the miner's pickaxes as they beat against the crystals in the cavern. Whenever I was chilling at a bench, I happened to think about Ghost. When I was little, I always slept next to his side, and it was always peaceful to have him around. Those were some good times.
But I had to forget about living in the past. It was done and over with. I got off the bench and continued onwards. I knew that I wasn't too far from the crown. A few miners did wave to me as I passed by them. Not being rude, I waved back.
My legs felt like lead as I kept on going higher and higher up to the top. Once I arrived at the top, I sat down at the edge of the cliff, and looked over at the town of Dirtmouth. It looked so small from up here, but the view was still super pretty. I looked up to see the statue of Radiance. "I'm so glad that you're gone," I said to myself.
"I bet that you're happy that I killed her huh?" a voice said from behind. I got up, and took my nail out. "Who's there?" I said angrily. I happened to see a dark shape come from the fog. "Show yourself! I have a nail and I'm not afraid to use it!" I snarled again. Then the shape came from the darkness. It was a vessel, and both of its hands were up. "Woah, woah woah! Don't attack! It's me!" it said.
That was when I dropped my nail. It landed on the ground with a clatter. I began to cry. "Gh-Ghost?! You're....YOU'RE ALIVE!" I then screamed. I ran over to him and hugged him. I was still sobbing. Ghost hugged me back. "Grimmchild! I thought I lost you!" he said. We then hugged for a minute, still happy that we were together again. This was the best day of my life!
