i always remember the moment i met someone who became very precious to me.
he couldn't hear, but we somehow made a connection.
it was my sophomore year in high school, i had to transfer from my old school because i got into some serious trouble in my previous one.
everyone at the new school heard about what i did and avoided me the moment they found out my name.
they all stared, but none spoke.
it made me feel unwelcomed, even the teachers acted like them too.
i heard people talk about me sometimes, but they never said it in front of me. cowards.
they didn't even know my story. they didn't even know why i got into trouble. had they ever considered i had a reason as to why i did that?
i already knew the answer to that question.
eventually, i got used to everything.
the rooftop, the breeze, and the sun became my best friends.
but one day, that spot was replaced by ha eunho.
he had mistaken my regular rooftop activities as a suicide attempt, and although i couldn't understand him, he still talked to me in sign language.
and that was the first time i genuinely smiled after i moved to this school.
from there on out, we became the best of friends.
initially, we communicated through writing, but i wanted to really show him that i appreciated him more than he could ever know.
so, i learned sign language for him.
it took me awhile to remember all the signs, and i watched numerous videos to help me too.
but it was all worth it.
when i finally tried to communicate to eunho using my knowledge, his eyes lit up like fireworks.
his joy and excitement was contagious. it was so worth it.
