One more night.

Jessie sat at the wooden desk in the room as James, Meowth, and Wobbufett slept from the other side. Now that James was healed he could go back to sleeping in the most preposterous positions. He was sleeping perpendicular to the mattress and Meowth was flopped over him. Wobbufett was on the verge of falling off a chair a few feet away.

Jessie double-checked everything that was in their bag, with barely any light to help. So much clothes, not as much money than when they started, but there were snacks and at that point she couldn't complain with that. Her and James' trainer outfits were in there too, still disheveled, but even though they couldn't wear it anymore they'd keep them just for the memories of the past year. Same with their Team Rocket uniforms, which she swore she would never use again. Then again, trying to wear either outfit right now would damage her self esteem.

She repacked the last several clothes, ones Delia had offered her only a couple of weeks prior. Jessie didn't understand how someone could be so sweet. Delia didn't have the same clothing style as her, she had a simpler and softer clothing choice than she did, but eventually Jessie picked out something that she could work with. With her budget, being gifted something that would still be able to fit her later on was extremely helpful. Pink and black looked pretty good together. As convenient as James' sweatshirts were she couldn't steal from him forever. Or, well, she still technically could.

Jessie felt tired but she knew she didn't want to sleep just yet. She stood up from the chair in the desk and walked to the door, catching another glimpse of herself in the wretched mirror. It was almost embarrassing. Her hair was always stuck in a messy ponytail and it would probably stay that way for a while. If she didn't have the time now to give herself her trademark hairstyle then she definitely wouldn't be able to later.

Jessie left the room and slowly made her way across the living room of Delia's house. She opened and closed the door quietly to make sure no one in the house woke up and thought someone was breaking in. She stood on the edge of the porch and gazed at the neighborhood in front of her.

There was so much that could happen. There was such a high chance that sooner or later something was going to come for them. They escaped Team Rocket twice, barely making it out the second time, and if Giovanni was still mad at them how much more of this could they take? She and James had discussed this, several times throughout the past two months they stayed at Delia's house, and best case scenario Team Rocket simple believed they died during the accident and they were to never be chased down again.

Worst case scenario, Team Rocket was out to get them the second they had the chance to.

Jessie dragged her hands down her face and rested her elbows on the deck railings. She should be happy, sleeping away peacefully right now but instead worry was the only thing polluting her mind.

She felt a small flutter that shifted her thoughts- something that had started not too long ago, and she wrapped her arms around her middle and thought maybe it wasn't all that bad. She could almost vision it now.

Several months from now she would have a tiny little baby in her arms that would look like both her and James. If they found a nice peaceful little area and some nice jobs, they could have everything they ever wanted. She could live a relaxing life where she could kiss James every day and they'd play with the baby and he'd be in hysterics every time the baby reached a new milestone, and Jessie knew that she would love both of them with all of her heart.

It was so close, but they had none of those things so far. No house, no job, barely any money left. Things were rough and it would only get rougher from here.

"I'm so sorry..." Jessie whispered indirectly to James, to Meowth, and especially her unborn baby. She squeezed her eyes closed. Oh, how perfect and simple things were at the beginning of this journey. So simple compared to now. She was so oblivious to what was coming for her the night she ran away from Team Rocket with her two best friends that day. This wasn't how she imagined things would be. She couldn't mingle with society normally, she couldn't be a mom, she couldn't be the emotional support that her team needed despite the support she was already receiving so much. It was all so scary, every last bit of it. Jessie hung her head and put her face in her hands. "I can't do this..."
