JENNA POV

Laine had been staying with me for a few weeks now, but I didn't care. I actually liked it.

Laine and I were getting ready to go over to Piper's to film a video. Laine had sort of become part of the squad but only the squad knew why.

Someone knocked on the door, causing Daisy to bark again, but this time was different. She was growling along with barking, never taking her eyes off of the door. She had never done this before, which made me slightly worried.

I went to the door and opened it to reveal a man in his late fifties. He had brown hair and brown eyes. A short beard and mustache sat on his face. He looked a lot like Laine's father, minus the beard.

"Can I help you?" I politely asked the man.

"I believe so. Is there a Laine Harrison staying with you?" The man asked.

"Who are you?" I asked him.

"I am her uncle. Her father made it clear that if something was to happen to him, Laine was to live with me." Laine's "uncle" said.

"Oh." I simply said, "Laine is still getting ready for the day. Would you mind waiting here for a moment? I'll go find her."

I closed the door and leaned my back against it. Why was a random guy here? Was he really her uncle? But most importantly, why was Laine here if she had somewhere else to go?

I silently got off the door and started to walk towards my room only to run into Laine just inside the room. "Hey, Laine."

"Hey!"

"Does your dad have a brother?" I bluntly asked.

Laine's face went pale. "What did he look like?"

"Brown hair, brown eyes, short beard and mustache. Do you know him?"

"Yeah, I know him. He's worse than my dad."

"Well he's at the door. What should I do?" I asked, worried.

"Let me. I got an idea." Laine walked to the door and opened it to reveal her uncle standing there.

"Hello, Laine." For some reason his voice sounded oily.

"What do you want?" She responded. I wanted to intervene, but I let Laine do whatever she had in mind.

"Come on, Laine. Don't be like that. I'm here to take you home with me!"

"You can drop the favorite uncle act. You aren't fooling me, and you aren't fooling Jenna. Have you met my family?!" Laine burst out.

"Ok, fine. I'll drop the act. Let's try this again, shall we? Pack your bags and follow me!!" Laine's uncle nearly yelled.

I expected Laine to cower and grab her things, but I was dead wrong. Instead of cowering, she looked her uncle in the eye and simply said, "No."

Her uncle's face contorted in rage. "What did you say to me you spoiled brat?"

"I think you may need to get your ears checked along with your attitude. I said 'no'."

I chuckled, earning a glare from the man in the doorway, "You stay out of this, young lady!"

"You're literally at my house." I snapped back.

"Why not?" He asked Laine.

"You do know that my "dad" was never really my dad, right?" Laine put air quotes around the word "dad".

"He adopted you. Making me your uncle!"

"Your sorry excuse for a brother kidnapped me before I could even open my eyes!" I didn't know where this was going, but I laid my hand on my phone in my back pocket just to be safe.

"He still took you in when..." Laine cut him off.

"He took me from a family that loved me! The only love that I ever felt was from my mom. And yes, I am proud to call her my mother. At least she knew how to treat a person!" Laine snapped.

"It doesn't matter who you call family! You father placed you in my care!"

I think that I got what Laine was getting at. I stepped forward and said, "But if Laine was never officially adopted, then you have no right to take her. That would be kidnapping all over again."

"I'm not going with you, stranger." Laine added.

"Well, if I adopt you then what can you say?" He grinned as if he had just thought up a flawless plan.

Laine smirked in a fake sympathetic way. "Here's the thing, slick, I'm not up for adoption. I was never an orphan." Her comment made her uncle, or I guess he's now a stranger, speechless. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I have better things to do then to listen to desperate old souls."

And with a sarcastic wave, Laine closed the door in his face. She turned to me and grabbed my wrist, pulling me to her bedroom. "Thanks for letting me do that. But I think we both know that we aren't out of the woods yet."

Hiiiiiiii! How are y'all?

I'm going to do something that I wouldn't normally do and let one of you be in my story. To be able to have a chance in getting in, comment:

1) Your character's full name

2) Character's age

3) Personality

4) Looks

Once that is done, I'll chose one of you. I don't really feel like making a whole new character.

Stay safe and healthy!

Until next time! Sarahs4Hearts, out! <3
