Youth graced the boys lips as an upturned smile braced its sight

a delicacy in nature, one of natures finest pieces

a deer standing so close in the headlights of events tonight

as if the world had not come to a sudden and despicable end

at that joyous moment, the young Carl Grimes had found a friend

a friend of the forest he was, no distress aloof the deer's skull

and Carl smiled, his face fair, albeit the air smelling so foul

one step forward - then more, as predictable and plain as bared

close enough to grasp a touch at this forest friend, located yet rare

albeit! a sound of utmost despair, and a sight that would stay in the child's mind

the headlights that once were - the precious life once held in the deer's eyes flashed dead

Carl fell, and his familiar gifted hand-me-down hat drifted from his head

a mistake!?

the deer had been sacrificed, and saved Carl from a fatal gunshot

it can be imagined how promptly the deer went to heaven to rest

for in an apocalyptic world rest was of little and in short

as if the world had not come to a sudden and despicable end

at that despicable moment, the young Carl Grimes had found a friend

Once more, I modified one of my older poems which was named "found a friend" at the time. I had this inspiration, evidently, after watching the walking dead. I do love how simple things such as a show we enjoy can give us inspiration to take from it, don't you? Alas, until next time!
