We were trapped.

Harry and I had our backs pressed up against the wall, and the ferocious beast of a farm animal kept coming closer and closer. The cold white wall was digging into my lower back as I pushed harder, trying to put more distance between us. It was no use; she knew what she wanted and she was going to have it.

A cool breath whispered in my ear. “What are we going to do?” he mumbled.

“If I knew I wouldn’t be standing here, now would I?” I shot back. He didn’t reply, choosing instead to grab my hand for what seemed like the tenth time that day, and pull me along the back wall.

We continued to move at a steady pace around the whole room, always hugging the wall. The cow’s eyes followed us wherever we went, but she didn’t move. More mooing sounds came from her that we ignored, too wrapped up in escaping. The door to freedom was only a few steps away.

Harry was closest to the door. He made an attempt to pull it open, but it was stuck - probably from when we slammed it earlier. Trying to help him, I grabbed hold of the handle and pulled as hard as possible. Nothing. It wouldn’t budge.

The cow decided now would be a great time to start chasing after us again, as she stalked over to where we were panicking.

“HARRY!” I shouted in his ear. “Hurry up!”

His hands tugged even harder, and with one final pull, it was opened just in time. We ran out into the street, knowing that we would now be mobbed by fans. Lesser of two evils, I guess. Our breaths came out in heavy pants, with me leaning over with my hands resting on my thighs. As thrilled as I was to have escaped, running away from more fans was not something I was looking forward to.

A low voice caused me to glance up. “Elodie - look,” my partner-in-crime commanded. Winded, I was reluctant to get up from my stance, but the fear of being mobbed eventually got me moving.

And there was nothing.

No one.

Nada.

Not a single person was waiting for us in the alley. The “closed’ sign on the side of the grocer’s shone bright red, explaining why seemingly all the fans had disappeared. Relief and gratefulness washed through me; I wasn’t sure if I would be able to handle any more drama tonight. Now that we were free, maybe I could finally get home and settle in…then a realization came upon me.

I was walking out of the grocery store empty-handed. Well, close to empty-handed - Harry had picked my hand back up in his, cradling it. But I don’t think his hand would make for a very sustainable dinner…

What was I going to do for dinner? That Nutella felt like it was hours ago, even though in actuality it had only been a few minutes. My body ached when I considered going out to another store; I couldn’t waste more money on a cab, and finding another open store would be harder than finding a needle in a haystack. There was no way I could walk it. Maybe food would somehow appear in my fridge if I said the magic words?

A throat cleared next me in an obvious attempt to garner my attention.

Harry spoke in a soft tone,“So…now that we’re free, why don’t we do something together?”

I raised a brow at him. Why would he want to hang out with me? I’m sure he had some hot girls waiting for him back at his place. Or, at the very least, a Black Ops game just dying to be played. Besides - I was still hungry!

He smiled. “Please? We could just go get some dinner - I’m starved!” A loud gurgle came from his stomach as he spoke, furthering his point. Well, that solved my dinner issue.
