Into the Unkown Ch 1 & 2

A simple trip through space, they said. A quick hop to the next galaxy over, they said. Blixer snorted, what a load of bull. Two whole months stuck on this flying tin can, with no stops to land and get fresh air.

Though, the far-out view of the planets in the Ariadne arm was almost worth it. Almost. The crippling lack of companionship was taking its toll on his sanity. And, while there was Cuda, he was fairly certain she was more rabid dog than human. She was a damn good guard, but not very good company, unsurprisingly.

The autopilot chimed in and informed them that they were about to make an orbital swing around planet 4546b, an ocean planet with no known intelligent life. The shadow of the water-orb loomed large, and they had just reached the far side...

The ship shuddered and metal groaned at the impact of the beam. Blixer and Cuda were thrown off their feet to the starboard side of of vessel. They both moved through the precarious situation, mindful of the flying debris and fire everywhere.

Blixer was the first to get at the pod, slamming the button and not hearing his own frustrated shrieks when it didn't open immediately. He got it open on his fourth attempt and staggered in, waiting for Cuda.

When Cuda rushed in, the doors shut and they heard mechanical whirs as the pod launched away to the planet.

The entry to the atmosphere was rough. The pod caught fire, and Blixer passed out. The place they landed in was tame, thank God. Mostly small herbivores and coral in terms of wildlife.

They soon had a base set up, with a small aquatic farm.

Life... was nice.
