The reason why he didn't want to admit it right off the bat since that would've been simple is cause he honestly had never straight forward just confessed to someone. In fact he had never ever confessed to someone before.

you were actually the one that confessed. he thought about it and then just ended up kissing you.

Salesman:

She was glad you liked her too since she had always been afraid of rejection but with you, she felt safe to just tell you :)
