last summer-

elle demair. jj was intoxicated. he saw the sun through her eyes and saw his love in her body. he didn't know what this new-found feeling was, let alone know how to deal with it. maybe- he thought- just maybe she felt the same way:  seeing her automatically put a smile on his face as quickly as it could be wiped off with the sight of her sadness, touching her sent light through his body and leaving her dropped a weight on his stomach.

jj maybank. elle couldn't describe him. she couldn't get enough of him. him and his smile, him and his laugh, him and his eyes. the way she looked at him isn't something you can easily put into words. it was like her whole body relaxed and released the feeling of longing and loneliness but also dropped a weight on her stomach when she knew they had to part at some point. if it meant later that day or later that summer. if it meant until tomorrow, until next summer or for good.

neither of them thought of 'for good'. neither of them even wanted to think about 'until tomorrow'.

'wohohow pretty classy dad' she said with her hands floating up in front of her eyes, blocking the sun rays

'yeah i thought you would like it, what about you sweetie.. excited?' her dad said back

'very' her mom replied with a grin on her face as she squinted looking up at the holiday house they would be spending the rest of summer break in.

elle made her way through the bottom floor, lugging her bags up until the stairs. she dropped them as soon as she saw the view her back doors opened up to. she looked out at the calm waves and the sandy beach. she stepped out of the house and onto the patio facing the beach as it would be her back yard for the summer. her lips tugged up as she ran upstairs to call a room beofre her parents could. the first one she ran into she decided was going to be hers as she bellowed down to her parents

'too late i call the best room in the house'

'noo elle cmon play fair we had to unload the car.. speaking of which you can't just leave your stuff at the bottom of the stairs!!' her dad replied

'haha nope not falling for that you just want me to leave the room so you can get it'

'saw right through him didnt you honey' her mom giggled

elle took a deep breath, slumping down onto her bed. she had scored the room with a matching view of the patio- waves crawling up the beach, retreating a second later and mini dunes on the sand. her room had a small balcony, only big enough to fit her standing straight. she closed her eyes to the sound of the ocean and let herself relax.

she woke up and the sky was painted orange and pink out and with the ocean reflecting it, it looked just like a dream. elle was excited to spend this summer here in the outer banks.

'elle. come down dinner's ready'

'coming'

she hopped down the stairs to be greeted with her best friend. they both let out a squeal

'sarah!'

'ahhh! elle your finally back!'
