Chapter 20 - Leaving.

Scars.

Skye is with Taylor watching over a still sleeping Lincoln, just over her shoulder in the lab is Fitz-Simmons watching on. Skye, supportively, rubs Taylor's back.

"He's gonna be okay, Tay." Skye assures.

"I really hope you're right Skye, because I don't know what I'm gonna do if he's not." Taylor told her. She felt people looking at her so looked over her shoulder to see Fitz-Simmons talking to Kara. Kara flashed her a smile which she reciprocated then turned back to Lincoln and Skye.

"Tay you saved his life, he'll know that because he'll be told that when he wakes up." Skye told her truthfully.

"Really?"

"Yeah. Tay I-" Suddenly the lights flicker, cutting off whatever Skye was going to say. Lincoln is starting to stir as the lights keep flickering. He looks over to the side of his bed to see a smiling Taylor and Skye sitting there.

"Hi. It's okay Lin. I'm here. You're safe now." Taylor assures him.

"Added bonus, you're not naked with needles poking out of your skin." Skye added. He smiles and laughs a bit at the joke of their first meeting, and the girls laugh too. Lincoln looks away from Skye as he laughs and his eyes land on the Shield logo making him nervous as he tries to sit up a bit.

"Tay, why are we–no." Simmons appears in the doorway, and he looks over at her, Skye and Taylor look over their shoulders as well.

"Oh. Uh...uh, it's okay." Taylor tried to calm him. Skye and Taylor look back to Lincoln. "You can trust them. They're my friends, they helped save you."

"You never should have come for me." Lin tells them. He takes the oxygen tube down from his nose.

"We had to. Jiaying wouldn't allow it if I–" Skye started.

"There's a reason for that. The only thing that's kept us safe all these years is that we were a secret. Now SHIELD knows we exist. And they won't stop till they find Afterlife. Tay you know that." He explains. Skye gives them both a worried look.

Taylor and Skye are inside Coulson's office talking to him and May.

"Seriously, I have never heard of anything like that before and neither has Lincoln." Taylor says as she stands up.

"And you both believe him?" Coulson asks.

"Why wouldn't we?" Skye asks.

"You barely know him, Skye." Coulson told her.

"I've known him long enough. He and Jiaying helped us. They never tried to hurt us. Th-they taught us to channel our power, so we weren't hurting ourselves. These are good people, Coulson." Taylor replied.

"Are they? People, I mean." Coulson asked. He instantly realises that question was in poor taste. "I mean, look, I know you two feel connected to this group, but you won't tell us much about them, you're keeping to yourself..."

"We've been taking care of Lincoln." Taylor says.

"Okay, but from our perspective, we don't even know what to call them." Coulson reasoned with the girls.

"Inhumans." Both Skye and Taylor said in unison. Coulson takes this in with a slow nod as May stares at her.

"Our ancient ancestors called themselves Inhumans, and we just want to be left alone." Taylor explained.

"'We'?"

"If they want to be left alone, they why infiltrate a military vessel?" May asked.

"You're assuming that this thing is a weapon. Well, it's in SHIELD's possession. Maybe they're just afraid of it, afraid of what Gonzalez might do with it." Skye told them. Coulson stands up from leaning against his desk.

"We're not the enemy here." Coulson replied.

"This man teleported onboard, girls. He's clearly very dangerous." May added.

"Well, the same could be said about you May. I heard about what happened to that little girl in Bahrain." Skye reminded. May gives us the most reaction she gives, a back tilt of her head. Taylor just looked at the floor, knowing Skye was out of line. "Jiaying told me the whole story. Did you know that she was Inhuman?" May looks up at her, clearly shocked as Coulson looks from May back to Skye. "They both were. So you, of all people, should understand why they'd want to keep their location a secret...what they're so afraid of." May let the information sink in.
