One morning, me and Noel were laying in bed when my phone rang. I picked it up from the night stand and groaned.

"What?" Noel asked.

"It's my dad." I said.

"Answer it." He said.

"I don't feel like talking to him now." I said.

My phone rang again and I sighed.

"If I don't answer he's going to keep calling." I said then answered the phone.

"Hi Dad." I said.

"Happy birthday sweetie!" He said.

"Thanks." I said.

"I was hoping I could take you out to dinner tonight, but it looks like I'll be swamped with work. How about we do it Sunday instead?" He asked.

"Yeah, ok." I said, slightly disappointed, but slightly relieved too.

"Ok, bye honey. I love you." My dad said.

"Bye, love you too." I said and ended the call. I set my phone down on the nightstand and looked over at Noel.

"It's your birthday?" He grinned.

"Yes." I said.

"Why didn't ya tell me? I didn't get you a gift." He said.

"Because birthdays tend to be shitty." I said.

"Not this one, get dressed. We're going out." He smiled.

"Out where?" I asked.

"I have to find a gift for you then we can get some lunch." He said as he sat up in bed.

"Fine." I said and got out of bed.

We both got dressed then we went to the mall.

"So what d'ya want?" He asked.

"I don't know." I shrugged.

We passed a jewelry store.

"Let's have a look in here." He said.

I followed him inside and we looked at some rings.

"Dya like rings?" He asked me.

"I don't really wear jewelry." I shrugged.

He moved down to the necklaces.

"See anything ya like?" He asked.

I looked at the necklaces on display and one caught my eye. It reminded me of the necklace my mom always wore.

"This one's pretty." I pointed to it.

"Ya like that one?" He asked.

"Yeah."

Noel looked over at the woman that worked there.

"Can we see this necklace please?" He said and she walked over to the case. She unlocked it and lifted the necklace out and handed it to Noel.

"Thanks." He said and took it and held it up to me.

"Try it on." He said as he opened the clasp and put it around my neck. I held my hair up as he clasped it shut behind me.

"Whadya think?" He asked.

I looked in the mirror that was on the counter.

"I like it." I smiled.

"Ok, we'll take it." Noel said to the woman.

"Don't you wanna know the price?" The woman asked.
