It was clear from second one that the woman on the stairs had a problem with magic, although magic was something the Muggle world knew nothing about. Should know. Nothing against the beliefs a person can possess, to each his own, but the twenties in America took a lot of getting used to. No comparison to the twenty-first century.

"Fuck," suddenly escaped Gillian as she had been standing in the crowd with Hunter listening for a while, on that she immediately looked to the side and grabbed his wrist, "We have a problem."

"What's going on?" irritated, Hunter looked from Gillian to the woman on the stairs and surveyed the signs, which were nothing more than rants, "Do you know them?"

"To your right. The paper," Gill whispered as quietly as she could, bending down and shoving her wand, which was stuck in her boot, in as deep as it could go, "It's witch hunt time...... now put that thing away!"

"It's okay. Aren't you overdoing it a bit," Hunter replied with a groan, because Gill was probably like that for no reason at all, at which point she gave him a disapproving look, "Nineteen hundred and twenty-two. You know what that means."

"Oh, shit," after a brief attack of shivers, Gill shuddered and pulled the sleeves of her jacket down as far as she could and her nostril began to twitch, "Grindelwald. Grindelwald is still alive."

"Actually, I was getting at something else but, that's an interesting fact for once," Hunter replied but he was probably getting at something else that was equally interesting, "Dumbledore is still alive. That's actually what I was getting at."

"Pretty great," Gill's words couldn't sound more disinterested, so she tugged on his sleeve to leave and circled her finger in the air, "The dark lord has thus not yet been born but all that aside..... We are officially not existing...... what's the name of the ministry here again? Maraca.... Mar...."

"The MACUSA?" snapping Gill pointed at Hunter for confirmation and spinning in circles as he continued, "Do you really think they can help us?"

Not so much, but who else could a wizard or witch turn to. This time had been one of the worst ever for wizard society. Witch burning and a life in constant fear of being discovered. A life in the underground. It wasn't always great in their time either, but at least there were places where witches and wizards could live without having to hide.
