Chapter Six

Disorientation

Hailey Jane Rexler

My heart raced. I'm not sure what was going on with me, but stares like that don't just happen. I had to get my mind off of Drew. He's just an insignificent human, insignificent human, insignificent human. I repeated to myself. I shifted the second I got off of my bike and ran into the forest. Time to run some battle tactics. Yeah... I sighed... battle tactics will get my mind off of everything. I ducked back, and lurched forward. I bit and clawed and deaked back and forward. I slipped around the practice dummy and attacked it from all angles. It was in shreds and was hanging limply off the pole by the tim I finished.

'That's my girl,' Dad said in my head. I turned around sharply to see his large auburn wolf standing at the edge of the clearing. I trounced over to where he was standing. 'You'll be an excellent Alpha.' he grinned a wolfy smile.

'Just running battle tactics,' I said modestly.

'Yes, but you normally don't do so unless you're troubled,' he said worried.

'Not troubled, just stressed.' I said.

'About what dear?' he asked.

'Just... things...' I said.

'Well, there's nothing that practicing battle tactics can't fix!' he said cheerfully, I just nodded half-heartedly. 'Preparation leads to celebration! Keep in mind! We're meeting with the south pack soon!' he said. I nodded.

'Do I have to come along?' I asked nervously.

'Yes dear, it's important that you come, you'll be leading this pack one day.' he said looking me in the eyes. I sighed, alrighty then.

I sat in the art room, painting yet another painting. I found myself painting a lot lately, it seemed to free my mind. Right now I was painting what looked like a forest of sorts, it had black lilly's growing along the sides of the path and the bloomed away from the sun oddly enough. The trees seemed to be all pine trees and they varied from shades of evergreen to bluish green. Next came the part I least looked forward to, the part where the painting should be finsihed, but never was. Because somehow I always ended up adding one little detail and the painting would be magically complete in my eyes. I looked at the back of the path in my picture... it seemed like something should be there... maybe I should... no. I restrained myself and set it on a stand. I backed up and looked at it from a distance. It's done, I told myself strictly, but my body seemed to disagree. My hand began to dad the paint brush against the black blob of paint on the palette... no, not again. I thought. I found myself forward toward the painting with the brush in hand. I sighed and let my senses take over. Once I was done I stepped back to see what I'd done. On the path was a black wolf. I'd gotten to know it pretty well, from all different angles you could say. I glanced around the room at all my recent paintings. In everyone was that stupid beautiful black wolf.

'I think you have a problem,' Lucy kidded. I jumped in suprise, I hadn't even noticed she was here.

'I actually think I do,' I muttered whilst inspecting the black wolf in all of my recent paintings.

'Where have you seen that wolf?' she asked me for about the billionth time.

'I've told you already, I've never seen that wolf in my life.' I sighed, slumping down on the floor. She rubbed my back.

'It'll be alright babes.' she promised me.

'This is insane...' I muttered.

'I know.' she cooed whilst twirling her frizzy blonde hair. I shoved her lightly and she laughed, her grey eyes dancing in amusement.

'You're so odd,' I said.

'Deary, we're all so odd,' she whistled. I loved Lucy so much. 'Although you a bit more, look at all these paintings!' she said. I slunk down making myself even smaller than usual.

'I know...' I muttered. There were almost thirty or so paintings with the black wolf in it. I twirled my hair around my finger. This really was insane.

Sorry it's such a short chapter, but they can all be long! Or can they? Here's another random question! What happens to zombies if they don't eat people? I mean, they can't die because they're already dead...? Keep reading!
