We spent the rest of the day eating pizza and watching movies. It was much better then going to school and sitting in a shitty desk all day.
I helped Luke dye his hair a solid black, it looked absolutely amazing and I was proud of my work.
About 15 minutes after school would typically end for us, Luke walks me over to my house to talk with my mother and father. I was nervous, my palms began to get sweaty and I couldn't stop playing with strands of hair hanging near my shoulders.
"Wait a second." Luke stops me in the middle of the sidewalk halfway between my side of the house and his. "Flip your head down a second."
"What?" I ask.
"Put your head down." Luke commands. I refuse, not willing to buy in. Upset at me, he pushes the back of my neck until I'm bent over, and he starts rubbing my head real hard to mess up my hair with his fingers. All the gel that I put in this morning for going out of the house came out into his hands and when I looked up again my hair was staticky and nasty looking.
"Luke!" I yell. "What the hell was that?!"
"Much better." He smiles.
I try to push it back down but it's too thick to do anything with. I groan and finishing walking up to my door step. My hand shook as I reached to grab the door, but when I do my mother is already waiting on the couch right near the front door.
"Hi mum," I say, wondering if she will even notice or not.
"Michael? Oh, my.. What happened to your hair? Who's this?" She responds to the presence of Luke.
"Hello, Mrs. Clifford. I am Luke Hemmings. I live right next to you. And you see, today in our chemistry class, Mikey here put too much sodium in with the beaker of chemicals and it exploded. The chemicals we were using are in hair dye, and suddenly BAM!" He throws his arms up at her. "Mikey's hair is now a rich coffee colour. We dun didilly dun goofed." He takes his hand and hits my back kindly.
Was he serious? There was no way that could've happened, I don't even take Chemistry.
My mother nods, still somewhat confused. Luke stands beside me with his hands locked together and a huge grin on his face. What a charmer.
"Nice to meet you, Luke. Thanks for explaining what happened." She smiles. She gives me a look to 'just play along with it', and I do. Luke seems awfully proud of himself, standing very tall with a solid stance and dark hair gelled straight up in the air.
He turns around and begins walking out the door, waving goodbye to me. "See ya tomorrow, Mike."
"Bye," I wave.
After my mother closes the door, she smiles at me. "He seems nice."
I roll my eyes. "I guess." I run up the stairs and into my bedroom.
---
For whatever reason, my mother nor father seemed to care about my hair. Hell, they didn't even question my day at school. I wasn't sure if it was because they knew, or maybe they didn't feel it was even important. It was a Thursday night, tomorrow was Friday, and after that was spring break.
I figured I'd try hanging out with Calum, but if I did that then it was for sure that Luke was going to be there, too. Like I said before, the only reason I was agreeing to being with them is because I wanted to get a bit of credit for high school, I didn't wanna be some deadbeat nerd and no one remembers their name, I wanted to be the kid that was best friends with Luke Hemmings and Calum Hood. Two of the most favoured kids in year 9.
