They said she had to be pretty

They said she had to be skinny

They pressured her and told her they all needed to look the same

So she decided to play society's game

She was losing with so much pain

She wore tons of makeup

She starved herself

She said she needed to look pretty

She even lost her virginity

But soon she looked in a mirror

She saw she was broken and shattered

She thought to herself why did it matter

As a tear rolled down her cheek

She took off her makeup

She let down her hair

and simply started not to care

She looked at herself and liked what she saw

She thought being myself brings me more happiness

Even if I'm not perfect

Even tho not everyone may love me

I love myself and some people love me for me

And for them I'll be myself

I won't be a pretty doll up on a shelf.
