Question 2

Divide text into 2

Find 7 or so language and structural features in each 1/2 so 15 in total

Write 2 short paragraphs

1st sentence: At the beginning of this extract, the writer uses language to... state what is in the question, including what I think

Put in a quote – use the name of the feature before writing the quote e.g. ... uses the metaphor "..."

Analyse quote by using another quote

Analyse 2nd quote (if it is worthy of analysis) OR move onto next quote

Don't say "another metaphor is", instead say "this fear is also shown"

Roughly 4 quotes per paragraph – 3 sentences

Next paragraph in similar way – As the text progresses... the storm gets even...

No more than 10 sentences in total

Good because it is in chronology – shows development/progression throughout the text


Question 3

Structure – either builds up to something (emotional or dramatic) OR rupture in chronology (flashback or flashforwards)

Cut into 3 parts

3 paragraphs with 4 sentences

1st sentence – The focus at the beginning of the extract is

Focus at the middle and at end

How does it relate to the end?

Why?

Have embedded quotes (2) showing what is being described


Question 4

Leave space for introduction, start writing

4 paragraphs – first 2 paragraphs on first part of statement, last 2 paragraphs on last part of statement (chronological analysis)

1-2 quote per paragraphs on structure and language

21 quotes in total

Include key words – tone, perspective

Talk about what I think – make it more personal

Introduction – a statement about what I think with reason
