Chapter 22- Homecoming Part 2

Nai rushed her directly to the emergency room where she was burning and comatose. The doctor assessed her, " Patient has a high fever and low BP. Let's get some fluids into her. Let's do a blood test before we start next course of treatment. Sir, who are you to the patient?"

Nai was extremely worried, " She's my fiancé. She got drenched last night and was out in the cold. She just went to sleep on the plane and wouldn't wake up"

The doctor noticed how tired yet concerned and distraught he was, " We will take care of her son. Please go outside and sit down. You look like you could use the rest too. We will update you once we know more." and ushered him out.

Nai collapsed into the seat and head his held in his hands, ' God, please let her be okay. I don't know how much more worrying I can take'. By then, Nai's parents, his brothers and her sisters had reached the hospital. Seeing Nai prone on the seat alarmed them.

Mama Lin , " What's wrong? Where's qi qi? What happened to her?"

Hao Mei, " Nai, are you okay? What is wrong?"

Nai looked exhausted and helpless, He whispered " I don't know. She ...she wouldn't wake up on the flight when we landed. Her skin was burning." Everyone saw how torn up he was and could only imagine what it took to bring her home. He hadn't slept in 48 hours. Mama Lin gave him a tight hug and sat down next to him while Papa Xiao paced restlessly outside. Their friends sat down a bit further away to wait for news.

The doctor came outside and found Nai with the rest of this odd family .He updated, "Son, you fiancé is extremely weak and exhausted. Her body is low on iron and fluids. Getting drenched didn't help either in those conditions. So she has a high fever. She is unconscious because her body has shut down. It needs rest. I don't know when she will regain consciousness but we will be monitoring her closely to ensure it doesn't turn into meningitis. We will be treating her. Only one of you can stay with her, the rest of your family will need to come back during business hours"

Hao Mei smiled at the word fiancé but soon frowned hearing the rest. Nai just said thanks to the doctor and leaned back in his seat.  Everyone said, " I'll stay" Nai categorically refused  and everyone objected seeing how tired he looked. His mom looked at him and said " My son, you have already done the hardest part, which is bringing her home. Let us take care of her. Go home , you look tired, get some rest. "Nai shook his head and said firmly, " I'm staying. End of discussion. I know you are all trying to help, I appreciate it. But I need to be here now. You can come back in a few hours." Papa Xiao understood , he said, " Alright, you heard him. Let's all come back later. We can take turns. First visiting hours are at noon. We'll be back by then. Weiwei's dorm sisters can come by at four and you boys can come back at 11 pm. "

Nai went back inside the room after they left and sat down on the chair next to her. When Nai's parents came back at noon, they found him, sitting in the chair  with his head on her bed holding her hand fast asleep. They smiled. " She is such a good influence. I was worried our son had no emotions. She certainly brings out the best in him. Do you see the ring on her finger?", mama Lin said. Papa Xiao replied stroking Nai's hair, " About  time. Finally our wishes are coming true. Qi qi looks unconscious still" The movement woke Nai, " Papa ma, you're here already?"

Mama, " Son, go home and rest for a few hours. We'll stay with her. You look dreadful. Do you want Weiwei to wake up and see you like that?" Nai refused to move. Papa Xiao responded, " Aiyah! leave him alone. You can see the resolve in his eyes, there's no point fighting. Son, at least freshen up in the attached bathroom . We brought some clothes, change" Weiwei had still not woken up by the time her dorm sisters came to visit in the evening.
