chapter eight
{ unedited }
BELLA WAS ANNOYED; SOMETHING THAT WAS RARE FOR HER. She didn't want to be, she hated that feeling, but Lucas had shown up with Max and Bella was annoyed that he got the unsuspecting girl involved with The Upside Down. Max was now stuck in this world whether she wanted to be or not. Dustin and Lucas had both noticed the change in her mood and Dustin steered clear of her. Even Steve had noticed Bella acting differently so he didn't urge her with the protection in the junkyard like he did with the two boys.
Lucas, however, did not follow Dustin and Steve's lead as he made his way to Bella, dropping the scrap he was holding before sitting next to her. Bella looked up at him through squinted eyes, having left the group to work as she made sure Bugs didn't run off anywhere, the bunny on her lap.
"You're mad." It wasn't a question but a statement and Bella sighed, turning away from Lucas and to Bugs, lifting the bunny gently to put in her pocket before standing up. Lucas was quick to follow her and helped her lift the scrap metal that Bella was trying to lift. He took one side whilst Bella took the other, walking sideways closer to the bus. "Why are you mad at me?"
"I'm not mad," Bella mumbled, careful to not be overheard by Max, Dustin and Steve. "I'm not mad, I'm just annoyed." Bella stopped walking, turning to Lucas who had yet to look away from her. "I can't believe you told Max after we talked about it. We agreed it was a bad idea."
