-HER-

"Come here,"

It was a command and like every command of his, I wanted to go against it but this time, I found myself turning around to face him. I didn't drop the glare yet. I was still seething due to what he had done to me previously in the evening.

I stood there for a second, glaring at him. Meanwhile, he sat at the table with the flickering candle throwing all sorts of shadows on one half of his face. I could swear again that I momentarily saw the rim of his iris glow for a moment.

When I didn't move from my place for a while, he patted the stool next to him. I didn't go yet. Even though I came here to return the gem to him and not talk to him anymore, I was compelled to do the opposite.

Surprisingly, I found myself walking up to the table while he watched me like a hawk.

"Now, sit down," He commanded when I was finally at the table.

"I'm not going to do any arithmetics," I told him sharply, eyeing the papers that were scattered on the table. It could be just that he wanted me to do some of his work? I wouldn't be surprised if he really gave me to do some sums. He was an unpredictable son of a witch.

"You wouldn't be doing any arithmetics. Now, sit down," He commanded again. To be honest, this rather took me by surprise. If he didn't want me to do anything then why did he want me to sit next to him?

Was he playing another of his games? Well, what did I tell you about him being an unpredictable son of a witch?

I wanted to disobey him but I found myself seated close beside him in the next moment. The way the gem was glowing under the candlelight caught my eyes. For a moment, I couldn't stop staring at it.

There was this strange force compelling me to take it again but this time, I snapped out of the daze as soon as I felt his hot breath fanning my neck. I remembered that I was sitting right beside him.

"What do you want?" I asked him. He watched me and didn't say anything for a moment. Then he asked me, "Why did you come here at this hour?"

"To give that to you," I told him.

"I thought you were going to keep it,"

"And you would have let me?" I asked him and he fell silent for a while, watching me. I couldn't help but be aware of his rigid, tense body right beside me and the fact that his tailcoat and waistcoat were missing just added to the tension.

I wanted to look at him but I was afraid that if I turn my face then something embarrassing would happen so I kept my eyes on his hands. His long fingers looked so elegant and beautiful under the candlelight. I couldn't help but trace the veins starting from the back of his hand, travelling up his arm which was exposed because he had rolled his sleeves back.

I wanted to look further but I stopped.

"Why didn't you give it to me back then?" He asked me.

"Why? You couldn't guess?" I asked him. He remained silent for a while before he asked, "You didn't do anything with it, did you?"

"No,"

"Are you sure?"

"Yes," I hissed, slowly feeling on the edge. I felt on the verge of exploding. I wanted to give him a piece of my mind already but something was holding me back. "And what would I do with that?"

"There's a lot of things that could be done with this," He told me, picking the gem up with his fingers and twirling it around in a way that made the candlelight dance inside it.

I stared.

"I don't care," I told him, "I want to go back,"

As soon as I said that, everything in the room seemed to have frozen for a moment. I felt his body grow tenser beside me. The candlelight flickered violently when he let a huge breath out.

"When will I go back?" I demanded, staring at the candle. All of a sudden, I was blinking tears. He remained silent, watching me pensively.

In response, he put the gem in front of me.

"Take it,"

"Huh?"

"Take it, Ophelia," He repeated but this time, his voice was a whisper. I almost thought that I imagined him say that.

"It's yours. I don't want it," I told him,

"Technically, it's not mine but I want you to keep it... for now," he told me, moving the gem towards me with his one long finger. My eyes were on his hands rather than that gem. A part of me wanted to touch his hands. I noticed how his fingertips were covered with some charcoal.

"I don't want it," I told him again.

"You have to keep it,"

"But why? Didn't you want it before?" I asked him.

"It will be safer with you,"

"Do you care about a thing's safety more than mine?" I questioned, glaring at the charcoal in his hands, hoping that it would disappear.

"Keep it," He told me, pushing it even closer to me with his finger.

"No," I hissed.

"You're going to keep it with you, Ophelia," he commanded.

"Make me," I dared him.

They say that your words have consequences. Well, they weren't wrong. I should have thought before saying that because the consequences of my words came in the form of something I couldn't even have fathomed in my wildest dreams.

I felt him leaning closer to me until I could feel his hot breath pricking my skin with goosebumps. I froze completely, waiting for him to stop closing the distance between us but he didn't. His face kept getting closer and before I knew it, his lips had landed on the side of my lips.

My heart stopped beating for a moment. I was about to jerk away but on cue, he held my chin firmly and turned my face around, aligning our lips together.

I gasped and this proved to be my third mistake tonight because he used this opportunity to part my lips further and spear his tongue into my mouth. When our tongues collided, I felt something hard ramming in my chest.

For the first couple of moments, I resembled a statue but I didn't realise when I fisted his shirt and started kissing him back.

Though I should have known that this was again one of his 'ways' because when I pulled back, I felt the weight of that gem hanging from my neck.
