REMY

They were shown to two houses on the back edge of the complex. Remy had never been so close to houses so fancy before. The closest she came was taking Elis to visit the ritzier neighborhoods at Halloween, and touring their Christmas lights. It had been about a year and a half  since everything happened. Elis would be 5 now...

Deanna had assigned them two houses. It was very generous, but Rick decided they would all be staying together for the time being. That was fine. Remy wasn't comfortable being divided just yet.

She was checking the area around the houses with Dax when a beautiful blonde woman noticed her. She walked right up to her, and reached for one of her curls, smiling.

"I'm sorry," she said, "I couldn't resist. My name is Jessie. I used to be a stylist. These curls are so gorgeous!"

"Uh....thank you?," Remy didn't know what to make of the sudden attention.

"Are you busy?"

"No," she admitted, "not really."

"Well, I know Deanna asked us to give you guys a breather, but I would LOVE to straighten that hair out," Jessie gushed. "Come on with me to my house, I've got time before my oldest is out of class. Oh wait, I'm sorry! What's your name?"

"Remy..."

"That's so pretty! I don't think I've ever met a Remy. Well, except the mouse on Ratatouille!"

"Yeah, I think my dad would have preferred another boy. We aren't even french."

She and Dax followed Jessie to her house, noting her surroundings so she would be able to find her way back, but it wasn't far, less than 3 minutes walking. Dax waited outside as she went in. Jessie mentioned that her husband didn't care for animals.

Jessie gushed over her dark curls as she thinned, trimmed, and then stacked the hair into an A-line lob. She handed her a mirror. Remy's eyes teared up.

"Oh cmon now," Jessie said

"Oh cmon now," Jessie said. "Don't cry! You're gonna make me cry! If you don't like it, I can do something else. It'll grow back!"

"No...it's...it's so perfect. Thank you. Thank you so much. What do I owe you?"

"You don't owe me anything! I like doing this. I work in the pantry. It's nice to be able to practice my profession."
