Chapter 12
I dawdled alongside the road as Vaughn rode the carriage. With the help of the carriage ride, I can deliberately observe the scenery now.The night was just beginning but the sky was already dark. Many pretty and colorful lights were either hung on the trees and plants and some on the pavements or the pillars.
'The Imperial Palace is breathtaking.'
"We have arrived, milady."
Vaughn opened the carriage door for me as he extended his hand to me. I took his hand and slowly got out of the carriage, I was trying to be careful because of the gown I was wearing.
Vaughn looked at my hand before letting go. "His highness gave you that?"
He said talking about Sapphire Forrest that was wrapped around my finger.
"He told me to wear it on this day."
"It looks good on you, milady. His highness does treasure you." He said, grinning.
...
Vaughn who was walking in front of me led me to His Highness' office. It was weird for him to want to meet me at his office rather than his palace, where he should have been after preparing.
Vaughn knocked on his door after we arrived shortly. It took him three knocks before sayings something.
"Your Highness, Lady Cecil has arrived."
"...let her in."
He opened the door as I walked myself in. Alas, the birthday celebrant who was supposed to be crazily preparing for his day today, was instead sitting idly on his couch, drinking a cup of tea.
Does this man not care about his day...?
"Staring is rude, Lady Cecil."
"W-what are you supposed to be doing?"
"Is there something wrong? I'm just taking a sip of tea while waiting for milady to arrive." He said unconsciously as he took another sip of tea.
"But your highness, shouldn't you be prepared as of now? This is your birthday after all."
"I'm already prepared milady. The only one that's missing."
I scoffed as I let it go. He put his cup down on the table and rose from his seat. I walked closer to him.
"Vaughn, leave us." Vaughn lowered his head silently as he walked out of the room.
"The banquet is already starting. Shouldn't we go there already?"
"We will, but let us talk."
"What is there to talk about?" I crossed my arms over my chest as I raised a brow.
"I want to call milady by her name." I furrowed my eyebrows and giggled.
"That's it? If you insist, then you can call me Cecil."
He furrowed his brows as he looked at me questionably.
"Won't you ask why?"
"I already got the logic the moment you told me. I mean, it would be weird for a man to talk to his fiancee with honorifics, isn't that right?" He silently nods.
"Yes, milady is smart after all."
I giggled softly. 'His Highness acts like a child sometimes.' I silently thought.
"Then... You can call me, by my name as well."
"Mikhail?"
He pouts his lips as he nods. " Yes."
