It was silent

It was silent. Complete and utter silence filled the parking lot as she stepped out of the club. The customers exit the building one by one, each of them going on to their mundane tasks and normal lives.

But it wasn't a silent night for Celestine. Still shaken up about her encounter with Marco hours before, he did a great job at instilling his dominance and successfully intimidated her. It caused her her peace, and she drove in her old pick-up truck with fear trailing behind her.

The streets were empty at four in the morning and her engine was the only sound discernable. She let out a heavy sigh as her mind wandered to the things that could happen tomorrow. She did everything she could to get the money that she needed, but it still wasn't enough to complete the amount that he's asking for.

"If you weren't so generous to Michael, you wouldn't have this problem," her mind spoke.

She swatted the thought quickly. Being kind and generous is not the reason why she's in this predicament, and it's not Michael's fault either. In fact, Celestine has nothing to do with her problem with Marco. She ended up in the crossfire that his father had started and has no intention of finishing it.

That's why she's taking all the fall.

She groaned at her outspoken thoughts and decides to step on the gas. When she realized what she's going home to—an exhausted younger brother and a confused and conflicted friend, she puts her foot on the brakes and slowed down when she saw the view of her house from afar.

She almost confessed. Almost, which is so unlikely of her. She's still unsure whether she likes him or not, but her words and actions proved her otherwise. She didn't have to figure it out, she just didn't want to admit that he's changing her mind on that aspect.

Love.

She only swore to cherish only two people in the world: her brother and mother. It was tough for her to learn what it's like to love other people, or even have a fondness for them. But when he magically appeared into her life, it's not that difficult to like him.

Who wouldn't? He's charming, innocent-looking yet thinks maturely, kind of clumsy but adorable. He likes helping other people, returning the favor even if you don't ask any of it. He's one of those people whom she thought she'll never meet ever. But he came, and he altered that aspect of her life.

However, there is still a part of her that is still unsure if this is the right thing to pursue or not. She doesn't want to bring him into her life if he's going to leave one day. And she feels like he's also thinking the same thing, even though their actions betrayed them already.

Their first connection at the bakery, the night at the hill at midnight, their electrifying gazes at the thrift store. It's all vividly stamped onto her mind that this is the only difficult thing to do- to forget.

She pulled up to the front of the house, contemplating the current situation of her life, and what the future holds for her tomorrow when she faces the devil again.
