Envy

I hated her.

The way her smile lit up a room.

The way people surrounded her like the planets surround the sun.

She was a spotlight in a dark room.

It was sickening.

I wanted to shut her off.

Get rid of the bright light known as her.

I wanted her gone.

And I always get what I want.

At first I felt guilty.

You know, the sound of her screams, the pain in her eyes.

But eventually, guilt turned to satisfaction.

And soon, there was no more bright light to dim out the rest of us.

Soon I was the shining star.

The talk of the town as they call it.

Not because I was loved, no.

Not loved like she was.

It was because I was hated.

Hated for what I did to her.

In jail, I write this note.

A note that lets everyone know why I did what I did.

It was envy that caused this.

The want, no, the need to be the focus of attention.

I was jealous of her, so I wanted her gone.

And As I've said once before, I always get what I want.
