eventually, i was excused from the ball room. I immediately went to my temporary room and peeled off the beautiful dress and gloves. to reveal my equally beautiful tattoos.

on one forearm a flower that resembled a daisy. the stem swooped and twisted making up the blade and handle. while the flower rested at the very tip of the hilt.

on the other a very fine pointed dagger with a skeleton etched on to the handle and a clear sphere on the hilt.

i looked at my mostly naked body in the mirror. i could put on a dress and play the part of a princess, but under it all i was drastically different from my sister. my chest was smaller and my stomach was firm with muscle. scars littered my torso, arms, and legs. most would find them ugly, but i was rather proud of my scars. my mind flashed back to the guild where i had grown up. the boys and I all comparing injuries and calluses. this memory made me long for my makeshift family. i sighed and pulled on trousers and a tunic.

this made me think of the prince. what would he think if i didn't meet him at the fountains? what would happen if i did? what would i even say to him!?

in a matter of minutes the calmness left me and i was jittering around the room while i tried to make a decision.

i came to the conclusion that i would go to the fountains, but not to meet him. just to see if he would even come. i slipped on my dark cloak and boots and silently slipped out if my room. being careful to keep the hood over my face i made my was to the fountains. but instead standing near them, i stood in the shadows, practically invisible to passers by.

surely enough when the large clock stuck twelve, there he was. my stomach suddenly felt as though a swarm of butterflies had just hatched from their cocoons. before my brain could process what i was doing, my feet were taking me to him. i silently argued with my body. begging it to stop. but eventually he laid his eyes on me and i could no longer run away.

"ah princess. i was starting to think you wouldn't show up." i could hear the smile in his voice.

"i was also thinking i wouldn't show up." i blerted out before i could stop myself. my hand quickly shot up covering my mouth. he just laughed.

"you are something else Princess Maggie." i felt a pang in my heart. it wasn't me he was speaking to. it was her. "to bad i have to kill you." with a swift movement he plunged a dagger into my side.

shock over came my body and i felt numb to the pain. i looked me in the eyes as i fell to the ground. "goodnight princess."

just before i slipped into an unconscious state i managed two sentences.

"I'm not the princess. my name is Jane."
