devil's advocate - the neighbourhood

"Request clearance for landing." I say over the radio. A voice in Russian replies, confirming my clearance.

"Melina...?" I turn around in my seat, faced by Alexei who looked as if he just woke up, which he did.

So far, mine and Melina's plan was going well. Nobody suspected a thing. These photostatic veils were working like a charm.

Melina, disguised as me, was on her back beside Yelena, both unconscious. Alexei was now conscious in his seat behind me. James was also unconscious, but he was more restrained than the others. It doesn't surprise me, though. The Red Room finally got back their precious Winter Soldier.

"We're touching down in one minute."

"So why are we still going up?"

We fly forwards, and higher, heading straight towards a building in the sky. It reveals itself from behind a large huddle of clouds, helping it stay hidden.

"Now you know how Dreykov stayed above the radar all these years."

———

I stop in the middle of the hallway, looking through a small window in the door. Through that door was a group of around two dozen girls, roughly around Yelena's age, maybe a bit younger.

As if they could sense me, all the women stopped training and looked directly at me. I only nodded, leaving them to continue.

I make it to the end of the hallway where an elevator sat. I click the button to go up, waiting for the door to open. Once it did, I stepped inside, turning around to face the guard in the corridor.

The elevator then took me up a couple of floors, where the scenery completely changed. It looked more modern, more taken care of. There was only one man who would make sure his office was nicer than anyone else's.

Dreykov.

A buzzer sounds, and another set of doors open. They led me straight into his office, which looked exactly how I said it did.

"My God. Look at you." He chuckles. He walks over to me after getting up from a sofa. Who puts a sofa in their office?

Beside him, was Taskmaster. The attacker. The person who attempted to kill me, James, and Yelena on multiple occasions.

"So, uh, how was the family reunion?"

"Oh, it was awful." I reply, attempting to stay in character of Melina. "They were clingy, and too emotional, and needy."
