A soft hum of a tune lost and forgotten echoed through the white abyss known as the anti-void. The tune came from the only being that resided there, a skeleton who is known at this time as Error, was sitting on the ground, knitting.

Error had a small smile as he moved the needle through the fabric in a rhythmic manner. He had been able to take a break due to the creator throwing together a little get together with all of his creations for whatever reason (Error didn't really care to know, as long as he got a break then they could be holding a funeral for Ink's broomstick again for all he cared). Error paused his movements, lifting up the scarf he had been working on to check for any mistakes. Of course, they haven't made a mistake in a long long time, but it doesn't hurt to check.

"Oh, it's horrible! Get rid of it!"
"I see a mistake, it's right there."
"We don't have hands, no one knows what you're pointing at!"
"It's the whole thing, you dimwit! The whole thing is a mistake."
"You don't plan on giving that to anyone, do you? They're not gonna want it, especially since it's coming from your grubby hands."
"Eh, it could be better."

Okay so maybe Error wasn't the only being that resided in the anti-void, they were just the only physical being that lived here.

He felt his grip tighten slightly around the scarf as the voices talking washed over him before he took a deep breath, tuning the nagging voices out and opened a portal after double-checking for any mistakes then hopping through.

Error landed on a couch with a thump, scaring the skeleton that was sitting on it beforehand causing them to push themselves to the other end of the couch, their hackles raised and their body tensed as their hand reached down between the cushions and brought out a sharp dagger, holding it in front of them.

"What the hell-?!" The skeleton growled, their hold on the dagger tightening and their eyes narrowing before they seemed to register that it was just Error casually lounging on the couch who at this point had begun neatly folding the scarf in his hands finally looked over to the skeleton next to him.

"Oh hey, Cross."

Cross slowly relaxed as he glared at Error, stuffing the dagger back between the cushions. "Dammit Error, give a skeleton a warning next time!" the glitched skeleton couldn't help but laugh at the other monster "Yeah yeah, sorry Cross, I'll try to remember."

The monochrome skeleton raised a brow and gave Error an unconvinced look before giving a grunt as he relaxed back into the couch, "So what brings you here this time?" Error paused, hesitantly lifting up the folded scarf, "Oh I fixed your scarf." Cross perked up with a grin blooming on his face, snatching the scarf from Error but being mindful of not touching the other skeleton and standing up to unfold the scarf so he could get a better look at it. "Wow, you did an amazing job fixing this, thanks!" He exclaimed as he rushed to put it on. Error watched quietly as Cross held onto the ends of the scarf, seemingly analyzing the knitted fabric of it with a thoughtful expression, he looked back up with a slight tilt to his head and asked.

"You're very good at knitting. Where'd you learn?"

Error blinked in confusion, a weird static seemed to weave its way through the silence that now surrounded him.

Something sounded off about Cross's voice like it was overlapping with his own voice.

Cross's clothes seemed to switch between his own and an outfit that was glaringly familiar but the skeleton didn't seem to notice the constant costume change as he waited for Error to answer, slowly becoming a little antsy and concerned the longer Error stared at him.

"Umm....Error? You good there? I know I'm handsome but there's no need to stare." He couldn't help but joke but it was clear he was getting more concerned by the staring and silence on Error's part.

The glitched skeleton felt oddly detached from his body, a fuzz seemed to wrap around his mind, and maybe he should be scared but Error couldn't find himself to care, not even a little bit. Not even when his body seemed to move on its own.

He could hear words beginning to tumble out of his mouth, "Yeah, I was just thinking." Cross slowly blinked at him, his head tilting farther as he looked at Error questionably "What were you thinking so hard about?" a grin slowly grew on the skeleton's face "About how I'm the favorite?"

Error scoffed playfully, eye-rolling as he sank more into the couch "You being my favorite is as likely as Undertale collapsing."

Cross pouted with a huff and- ...oh. Oh. Error got it now, it was gonna be one of those days.

Because despite everything, Error wasn't seeing who he was supposed to be. Where Cross was, stood an eerily similar skeleton in his place. A skeleton that didn't exist anymore, at least, not in that form.

Error didn't like these days, never did. He didn't like seeing people that weren't here anymore, didn't like hallucinating them over his friends- it made him feel like he was replacing them and he wasn't doing that. He wasn't.

He blinked slowly as Crucifix stared back, his clothes no longer that of a royal knight but of a stylized clergyman. The taller skeleton smiled that gave off a serene look but Error could still recognize the discreetly hidden mischief that lined his grin. Crucifix always was good at fooling others with his calm, tranquil persona. He even fooled Error back in the day when they were mere acquaintances.

The static seemed to get worse as Crucifix leaned close yet far even where they didn't make contact with Error, who could only find himself staring and unable to move. The skeleton's mouth moved slowly yet he could not hear a thing. Everything within Error's peripheral vision blurred and distorted till he had to legitimately question if he was still in the mansion.

Crucifix lifted a hand, the baggy sleeves of his outfit sliding down and bunching up at his elbow as he pressed his finger and thumb together and-

SNAP

Error blinked and reality seemed to right itself as Cross stood there in concern as he stared at the destroyer.

"Error? Can you hear me now? You kinda spaced off there for a bit."

He swallowed thickly despite not needing too on a functional level. "I'm fine. Just thinking, something you're clearly unused too."

Cross squawked in offense and Error's spaced moment was filed away.
