 “Bitch!”

“Jerk!”

“Don’t think that’s going to stop me from ripping your-“

“Trust me; it’s for your own good.”

“No Tom, don’t try reason with-“

I growled and threw my shoulder into the doorframe but it wouldn’t budge, but determination flowed through me as I tried another three times before giving in and sliding down the cold dark frame to the ground of the cupboard. The cold trickled at the edge of my mind and I pushed my head into my hands with a strong sense of familiarity.

"Do you know that guy?" I asked Jay as he leaned over the wheel driving about 20km/h and still getting nothing but a blurry grey and black even with the headlights on and the window wipers on full.

"I've seen him with Richie before, I just can't remember his name," Jay said and I saw his eyes go up to me from the rear-view mirror.

I smiled and pointed to the road, "Eyes on the road McGuiness," I say and he chuckled.

"Sorry Coy, it's hard to keep my eyes off you," he confessed smiling.

"Even looking like a drowned rat?"

"I think you look more mermaid."

"Isn't it sirens that lure men to their doom with their voices and beauty?" I inquired and he chuckled,

"But you can't sing," he said laughing.

"I said lure, you could think I was a dying cat," I state and we laughed over the thunderous rain.

With a gasp I pushed it away angrily and glared as a McGuiness tugged at a string and let a bright fluorescent bulb flush the dark into the corners and stab at my eyes.

“You alright?” he asked.

I folded my arms across my chest and glared at him, “Do I look alright?”

“You might not want me to answer that,” he said with a warm chuckle but I kept my gaze angered as I sat there cross-legged. “Look, you know how Tom is-“

“No, remember? I’ve only known him for the span of what… a month?” I shot back, cutting him off midsentence.

Jay sighed and slid back against the otherside of the bare wall and put his fingers through his hair. I watched as his composure slowly slides until he ducked his hands into his woollen covered sleeves and let his shoulders shake. Oh no, I think feeling my chest scream at me, Oh what have I done? I went to go comfort him but he held up his hand and lifted his face; I could see the red rimmed blue eyes and his glistening tears streaming down his face. “’A thing of beauty is a joy forever; Its loveliness increases; It will never pass into Nothingness’…

“Why are you quoting me John Keats poetry?” I asked swallowing hard and trying to keep the edge in my voice but it seemed to shake on my tongue.

“Because it’s one of the last things you said to me before you fell.”

I shook my head and stood up, turning my back on him and kicked at the wall. “Don’t do this to me James! Please.”

I took another shaky breath and clenched my fists. It had everything to do with my confusion, of whom I love and who I had. It had to do with the lack of sleep and the torment my chest kept playing at me, it had to do with waiting for the call you get the morning after but it never coming. It had to do with Jay McGuiness, some other forbidden love because of reputation and what people believed and wanted to hear, who I am and what I was.
