~Nicki's POV~
The water rushed over the small bridge making it creak with the drag weight of debris and the rushing water. Thunder cracked overhead shattering the airwaves with a thunderous roar. The rain- merciless.
A woman was screaming a plea of help and was tugging against the weight of the fast running current. Instantly I went to help, regardless of the danger that was in large print in the very general direction of her.
"Stay Calm!" I shout and start to wade out to reach her. The water was over the bridge and reaching my knees and the pull was dangerously strong.
"My leg!" she screamed with her eyes red and puffy, rain, tears or a mix of both were streaming down her face as she growled at the pain. I reached her and noticed she did indeed have quite a problem, a prominent red was mixing in with the muddy brown water and I got the feeling it wasn't some type of food colouring prank.
"Stay calm," I say looking down at the broken branch that had struck her and pinned her leg against the edge of the bridge. "I'm going to get you out," I continue taking a deep breath and bracing myself while trying to find something to leverage it off her leg.
"Grace!" a familiar deep voice shouted out and I pulled my arm free of the water and looked up as a figure stood blurry in the rain.
"Go," said the woman shaking her head, her voice eerily calm.
"No, I'll find a branch and we can..."
"Get the fuck outta here!" she screamed and pointed to a thick wall of water coming closer. A flash flood… My mind froze before I felt a pair of arms push me against Grace and a coil of rope go around my waist.
"Hold on," he whispered in my ear and tightened his grip on me.
