-Gwen Stacy-

I was really being confident now. I came in to talk to our gym teacher about grades and points and you'll never believe who had gym this period. The one and only Peter Parker. Just who I was looking for.

I smiled to myself as I spotted him but then realized he was looking at Liz. The Liz. The most popular girl in school. At this point I wanted to walk away. It seemed like the best choice. Maybe Peter was involved with Liz and that would make me back off entirely. Something about that girl didn't sit right with me. She wasn't very kind and she cared about looks entirely too much.

I guess. It's not like I was shooting my shot, so why would it bother her, but she made me insecure.

I was simply attempting to have a conversation with the #1 at Midtown High. No big deal. Why would that be anyone else's business?

Maybe I shouldn't try. I decided to wrap up the conversation with the gym teacher and head out when the name Spider-Man and Peter were used in the same sentence across the room.

I paused and the rest of the gym did as well. Peter's dark haired friend who I believe was named Ned (since had the same pre-calculus class with me) had shouted that Peter Parker knew Spider-Man. Now I was really intrigued.

I turned around and all eyes were on the brunette as he stumbled to his feet in order to explain himself. Instead of showing off and bragging about knowing him, he attempted to shrug it off.

As curious as everyone else, I stayed silent observing. Peter explained how he had met him before at a Stark Internship.

Stark.Tony Stark! No way! Was Peter that much better than me that he had an actual internship with Iron Man?! Oscorp Industries is huge but Stark. He's an Avenger. A genius billionaire, who's the son of Howard Stark. This guy was legendary. And my classmate and competition worked for him. And knew Spider-Man. What the hell. Now I definitely had to talk to him.

Peter struggled to explain his reasoning and by the end, Flash had shut him down and class was dismissed. I watched everyone leave the gym with the final bell. But Peter remained in his spot. Ned said something to him then walked off. Although he seemed upset, I was determined and decided to March on over to him. Now that it was finally just him and me.

"Hey um Peter?" My voice seemed kind of shaky but I stood my ground. I tightened my grip on the books in my arms and took a deep breath.

The brunette boy turned around at the sound of my voice. His face drenched in sweat which I assume was from class just seconds ago.

"Yeah, um that's me, I mean." He shuts his eyes and wipes his hands on his shorts. "Yes I'm Peter." He smiles nervously most likely wondering why this strange girl is talking to him in the first place.

"Hi." I smile kindly, "I- well." Woah talking to new people was not easy. Yes adults were easy to impress, but kids my own age was something else. "I hear you work for Stark."

Peter's lips tug up a little at the sound of his name. I assume their close. "Yeah," he clears his throat, "well yeah I do. You're Gwen right?" He points at me as I come closer to be in a close speaking range.

I smile at his words. He does know me. "Yes." I nod. "I've seen you around except you used to wear black glasses all the time." God that's sounds like I'm stalking him, "We have AP chemistry together." That sounds better.

Peter doesn't address the comment and instead agrees. "Yeah I know," Peter says. "Well I didn't mean to sound in a rude way that like 'I know I know' but I've noticed you before. You sit behind me in class."

"Yes," I nod again. There's an awkward moment of silence before I decide to speak up. "Well I wanted to talk to you."

"You did?" He seems surprised. Hell I am too.

"Yeah, you're the smartest person I know. And I don't even know you." I straight forward say.

"Well it's nothing really. Thank you. I just. I don't know. I'm not used to getting compliments." He stumbles upon words and it's adorable.

"Well you deserve it. You're number one in our class." I clarify what I just said. "I wish I was, and I know that sounds cocky but you're my competition Peter." I tell him. "And now I find out you work for Stark," I chuckle quietly. "And that's awesome."

"Thank you, Gwen really," he grins, "I appreciate it, a lot. But it's nothing. I mean, you're really smart too."

"But I don't work for Iron Man like you do." I state, "you're a genius, and Spider-Man! That's insane. He's my hero."

Peter's eyes light up and I can tell he loves the guy too. Spider-Man was everyone's hero in Queens. We loved having him around saving the city.

"Yeah well, it's nothing really." He shrugs it off as if everyone were friends with the Avengers.

I shake my head in humor.

"Do you have an internship anywhere, I assume you probably do since your fantastic in science class." He compliments and I grin.

"Yes I work at Oscorp Industries," I tell him. "It's cool but we don't have our own Spider-Man," I joke which caused Peter to chuckle. "Are you a fan?" I ask, meaning the red and blue hero.

Peter cocks his head and gives me a thumbs up.

"Yep. Definitely. Big fan."

The bell rings again clarifying that school is over and we both turn our heads to the doors that lead to the exit.

"Well sorry to keep you waiting Peter," I adjust my bag's stamp on my shoulder again. "But I should start heading home. I have work later." I don't know why I tell him too much information but he doesn't seem to mind.

"Yeah at Oscorp right," the boy nods at me for what seems like the millionth time.

"But it was nice talking to you," I admit.

"Yeah you too." He smiles back at me.

"I guess I'll see you..... around?" I state but it sounds like more of a question. However the boy nods and makes me feel better about myself. "Okay. Have a good day Peter." I begin to walk off, looking back at the sound of his voice.

"See you later Gwen," his sweet voice echos through the gym walls and I smile behind his back.

I've got a friend.
I think.
I hope.
