The village of Crossworth wasn't a small village, but it wasn't a large one either. It was an average-sized village with average people and an average atmosphere. You would be hard-pressed to find one unusual thing about the place, that is, unless your eyes wandered over to Rose. And how could they not? She was an outlier from the rest of the village; as beautiful as a queen, as gentle as a noble, as hardworking as a servant, and as clever as a fox. Of course, these outstanding traits did not go unnoticed. Everyone in the village knew her and every eligible bachelor wanted her as his wife. This became increasingly obvious to her when she reached marrying age. The number of proposals offered to Rose was staggering. And growing by the day until every unmarried man, who was of a reasonable age, had sent her one. And Rose had not replied.
