(Amity pov)
I waved at Luz as she walked away with Hunter to her plane. I watched her board and walked to my plane. The twins were waiting for me.
"Welcome back to the jet sis!" said Emira as she hugged me. Edric rubbed my hair. Messing it up.
"Glad to have you back Mittens," he said as I fixed my hair.
"Glad to see you both as well," I mumbled under my breath.
We boarded the jet and we set off for home. The plane landed at the airport and the sun was already setting when the twins drove me home. We walked thru the door and there stood father.
"Welcome back Amity," he said softly and we hugged.
"Glad to be back dad," I said quietly. We let go of each other and I went to put my things up.
I open my door with a creak. I walked in my cold room and took a deep breath. "I missed this scent," I said to myself. My room usually had a minty scent to it. I set my stuff down and changed out of my pink dress into some other clothes so mother didn't know I wore my pink dress but before I did so, I took a shower to refresh myself.
I walked down the stairs and I saw my mother waiting for me. She had a disappointed look on her face. I tried to look away but something wasn't right. I walked past her and sat at the dinner table and she sat across from me. We ate in silence until father spoke up.
"So Mittens, how was school?"
I rolled my eyes and chuckled, "Well, It was better than it should have been," and I explained everything from Luz and I's first encounter all the way until her protecting me. Edric, Emira, and father were amazed at my story, but mother was just staring at me with the same face she gave me when I first saw her earlier.
We all began to talk about other things like Christmas and the new years. Edric and Emira were talking about what they wanted along with me and my father grabbed a notebook and began to write.
"You have been quiet tonight dear," said father as he looked at mother, "what do you want for Christmas?"
"A better daughter," she fumed quietly. It was quiet enough for me to only hear. It hurt, my heart shattered and my world felt like falling apart.
"What did you say dear?" asked my father.
"I said I want a better daughter!" she yelled, banging her hand on the table. Drinks fell over and everyone was shocked. Emira looked hurt.
"Why would you say such a thing to me?" she whined.
"Not you dear, I mean Amity! I expected better from you!" My face went red with anger. "I thought you were going to have a normal year like always but falling bookshelves and the destruction of the library, and don't get me started on those men who were after you, what has gotten into you?" I stayed silent. "I said what has gotten into you!"
"I would like to ask you the same thing!" I responded. The house grew quiet, no one moved, no one spoke, no one even took a breath.
"What?" began my mother, but I interrupted her.
"I said it. You have ruined my life."
"I did no such thing. I-"
"Shut up! It's my turn to talk," I shouted, throwing my hand on the table, "All my life you have been on my ass, making sure I'm up to your expectations! Extra work, no friends, not even having a social life outside of being a "little miss perfect". Now let me get this straight, I'm not your little miss perfect, I never was and never will be. Now if you excuse me, I'm going to my room. Good night!" and I walked from the table as my mother yelled at me. I didn't care to listen.
I walked into my room, still hearing my mother's screaming in the background. I closed the door and eminently broke down. I cried like there was no tomorrow. Tears streamed down my face and dripped onto the floor. I sat on my bed trying to calm myself down. When I was calm enough to do anything, there was a soft knock on my door.
I knew who it was. I only knew one person who's knock was soft, but just loud enough for me to hear, Alador or father.
"Can I come in?" he asked politely. I moaned for him to do so and he did. He had a worried look on his face when he walked in. "What's the matter, Amity?" He rarely called me by real name, but when he did, it warmed my heart.
"Everything. I never get the same treatment that Ed and Em get. They get to do whatever they want to and be themselves but I'm not even allowed to even have friends or even have a little fun." Father sat next to me on my bed and rubbed my back.
"Your mother was never like this," he said. I looked at him in confusion. "She used to be a great parent. She let Ed and Em do anything and let them be them but until you came, she wanted you to be the family prodigy. Something went wrong with your mother after Blight Industries went global, the money and power conceded her and she wanted someone to pass it onto, so she looked for the youngest so she could shape them into the ideal child in her eyes," he said and I looked at him, "and I see that hasn't worked. But in all seriousness, I will always be here to talk to."
"So are we," said the twins from the doorway.
"How long have you been standing there?" I asked.
"Long enough to hear everything," said Emria as she and Edric sat on the bed next to me.
"And we'll always be here for our younger sister," said Edric as he hugged me. I hugged him back and Emria and father joined in.
"We all love you Amity, and don't you forget that," said father. I smiled.
"Thank you. Thank you all," I said as we all let go. "And can I go and visit-"
"Yes you can," said father, "Just be back before ten." I get ready for a long walk. I walked down the stairs and I walked out the front door and then around the corner.
I walked for a while along the road until I turned onto a small dirt path which was covered with trees. I walked up to a hill. It had a tree on the top of it and the moon shone brightly on the top of it. A small path of stones went up the hill. I turned off the path and walked up the path until I reached the top of the hill. Then I noticed someone on the hill. They were laying down and were wearing a familiar green jacket.
"Luz?"
