fear.

at the bottom of the pit
lies a monster

it growls
it claws

and at the top of a cliff
the wind howls
the air thickens
and the fear pushes

down

down

down

a rabbit hole.

there's no end

to the thumping of the heart
the rigid feeling in the limbs
the drums beating in the ears,
quickening their pace

the heart, matching speed
arms, limp with
deafening silence

a cacophony
of fear.

with a thump
a thud
a gasp

the bottom arrives.
rock bottom

the skull cracks
blood oozes
and fear persists

a hand wrapping
round the heart
squeeze
constrict
destroy.

the monster unleashed
terror unfolded
and the lips separated ever so slightly
as vocal cords succumb to despair

and a tiny sound escapes
a little scream
a cry for help

a confession.

...i'm scared.
