Bear with me on this odd rambling introduction: "The Release of Alucard" is based off Celtic mythology, on ravens and crows, that I already knew of. The French have supernatural, undead being called a Revenant. Hence revenant × Hellsing. The story is not a crossover as the previous version was. So onward we go. I must warn you that this is a very dark story and should give you shivers. You should feel a little uncomfortable at details unless you are of the darker thinking to begin with. This is supposed to be a dark twisting tale of love and death with a vampire antagonist.
What is a Revenant persay? It derives ftom Old French and defines the word revenant to "returning". The French also have the verb revenir, meaning "to come back". The Latin word ‘revenans’ also meaning ‘returning.’ This was used to describe the manner in which the monster manifested itself.
In folklore it was an animated corpse that was believed who had been revived ftom death to haunt the living. Generally feared, most thought it was the wicked in life. Yet one form of Revenant is a person who died a violent and tragic deaths would return with the sole purpose of exacting justice on the murderer(s).
The Revenant could only be about during the night time hours and the bodies are in a state of slumbering. They differ from vampires, as nothing is needed to substain the Revenant, the drinking of blood is an act of pure violence.
The body is often said to be decayed and a foul smell that can be smelled from great distances. This creature would often spread disease and then death. It will dig its self ftom the grave which as we know a body not buried deep enough in fact fits this description and plague could occur. So this gives a tie in red also courtesy of Edgar Allen Poe's, Mask of the Red Death. This is discussed further down from here.

The color of red and imagery is going to be an underlining current along with Grimm fairy tales. One comes to mind is the girl with the red shoes. The most well-known probably is the tale of Little Red Riding Hood. Sometimes her hood is referred to as a red cap. We all think we know the story of Little Red Riding Hood. Or do we?
