Expecting The Unexpected

I give Yūji a nod and he leaves the both of us.

"Tch. You didn't have to stay" Megumi said as we continued our game of 'Whack-A-Mole'

"You're glad I'm here... quit your whining" I killed the one of the last mole-like curse, then watch Megumi's dog kill the last.

Now the source of the whole thing should be dead. Though I find my eyes on a dripping object from above.

"It's still alive?" Megumi says under his breath.

"It wasn't his main body earlier.. the barrier hasn't collapsed either" I bring my guard up once again.

"What's going on?" Megumi says a little louder than the whisper from before. He quietly gasps as the dripping thing from above opens up, letting out a curse which looked quite familiar to one I might have faced.

"Not this little shit again" I hear Nariko complain from the side of my face.

"You should be happy, your boyfriend's finger is in that curse. Though it feels much more stronger than the last" I respond to Nariko as I slap my own face, trying to shut her out. "Now shut up and let me fight"

I crack my head and knuckles as I feel my body warm itself up, small jolts of electricity escaping my body, since I prepare myself for something much worse than the usual.

The curse starts it's attack by spitting out some type of energy then stretching it out. Finally, it shoots at us but Fushiguro steps in front of me, breaking his sword in the middle of it as we get pushed back.

The curse charges at Megumi, but I push him off towards his Shikigami. I bring my arms up in defence, taking it's punch with a layer of electricity in front of my arms thankfully. I grab it's arm and shove it to the ground.

Before I knew it, the curse kicked back up and slammed my head down, I felt the world spin and my body twitch. I tried to get up, but fuck it was hard.

I could barely feel my hands, it was like all my strength just left my body. How pathetic, one simple kick and I'm down? I hear Megumi get hit, so I try to quickly get up, it was hard, but I pushed myself.

Finally, I regained strength, it was hard when all I could hear was the curse's laugh.

I turn to where I assume Megumi must have been, and he was knocked out. He was practically covered in his blood.

How long was I actually on the ground?

I clear my throat, assume stance, and look at my opponent, a nightmare I never wanted to revisit. The day I was presumed dead. So much has changed since then, I have got to show myself I have improved.

I wait for the curse to create its blow. I take a step back to the side, then exhale, dodging the first hit.

I feel I let my emotions overwhelm me, I've experienced so many so quickly, I've lost control.

Note to self.. or- you: Learn to control emotions once again. Especially when YOUR LIFE IS IN DANGER?

Right. That.

Yes that, now go save your ass, idiot.

I bring my attention to the curse once again, practically coming out of my own space. I seemed to have zoned out.. how.. stupid.

I jump up, holding onto anything I could on the ceiling. I knew I wouldn't be able to stay for very long, so I swung myself towards the curse, now sitting on its shoulders before flipping it onto its front.

Smiling as I got down, I keep my defensive stance. My hands were at ease, opened and ready to determine its next move. I crack my neck as I slowly walk around it, my knees slightly bent.

It gets up and immediately attempts to pull at my leg, I step back but it instantly shoots a beam towards me. I thought I was able to dodge, watching it zoom right past my face.

Of course, I was wrong, another came straight for my stomach. It wasn't too bad, but bad enough to make me cough out things I didn't need to cough out at this very moment.

I wipe my mouth and pant heavily, the taste of metal on my lips grew to be a taste I had too often. As I wiped my mouth, I felt my hands grow weak, I could barely clench it into a fist, like when you feel weak the moment you wake up.

I furrow my eyebrows, confused, but before I could figure it out, I hear Megumi's voice. It practically blasted my ears, I couldn't hear much till then.

I look towards the voice, he was up, but his face was covered in blood but his lips were stretched into a wide, maniacal grin. This was a new side, a side I've wanted to see for a while.

I can see why he seems to find interest in this boy

"Do you mean Suku-"

"Domain Expansion! Chimera Shodow Garden!"

The entire cave had turned into Megumi's domain. I was a little shocked. I kept calm, slowly getting up so I could help Megumi.

I could tell this domain wasn't at its best.. a little messy if I'll be honest. Though it is his first ever time, I'm proud.

I tried stepping forward, but my feet were locked down. I look to see black frogs coming from the ground, holding me in place.

He began to laugh as well, though it was just as maniacal as his grin was. My lips twitch into a smile, I really enjoyed watching this side of him.

He was fully focused on the curse, so I chose to sit back and watch. I'm glad I chose to, the way he moved gave me goosebumps.

I never understood why he held back, he has so much potential, and he's finally attempting to reach it. With so much ease, the boy exercised the curse.

I was quite speechless, my lips in an uncontrollable smile, but when I saw Megumi on his knees, clearly tired, I picked myself up and ran to him. The domain disappeared and I heard his words under his breath. "I'm tired" he said.

He slowly looked up at me before I dropped to my knees in front of him. "Now.. where are those guys?" He said with a tired voice.

I pulled him into my arms and let him lay on me. He sighed softly and huffed. "Even if I tried, I have no strength to get out of your arms"

"You don't want to leave my arms, I know it" I made sure his back was now on my thighs and his head in my left arm. "Now keep your mouth shut and close your eyes, I need to see if I can hear them" I closed his eyes with my right hand and closed my eyes to concentrate on any sounds or tremors in the earth.

I hope they aren't too far.
