Third Person
Leo felt outed by his 'friends'. Every time they hung out they told him his jokes were stupid and annoying. They didn't notice the scars littering his arms or how he was eating less. Nor how he had gotten quieter and locked himself away in Bunker 9 more and more. He slept less and nobody realized. He faked his laugh and smile. He masked his sadness and cared for them even though they didn't know it. So he took matters into his own hands. He decided to run away.
Leo grabbed a bag. He filled it with his tools, some snacks, and the money he had saved. He picked up a picture of him with his friends. He put the photo down and instead packs an image of him and his mom. He grabbed some paper and a pencil. The pencil glided across the paper with pain and hurt carved into every word.
Dear guys,
I have to leave. This is MY choice. I feel ignored and thrown away. I decided to trust my motto: Keep moving. It's nothing that you have done. This is my fault. I'm sorry I don't fit in. Nemesis was right. I'll always be the seventh wheel. I can't change that. I tried to but Calypso left me. Your lives will be better without me. It would be better if you forgot me. Don't try to look for me. Festus is with me so I'll be ok.
With love and care,
Bad boy supreme, Commander tool belt, Super-sized Mcshizzle,
Leo Valdez 🔥
He then heads to Bunker 9. As he walks, he hesitates with every step but as he opens the door he is confident that this is the best option.
He closes it behind him, places the letter on a workbench, and turns to Festus.
"Alright, bud. You ready to leave this place?"
Festus tilts his head and oil spills out. He creaks and clicks. Leo shakes his head.
"No, Festus. They don't care for me anymore. I don't need to waste any more of their time. They won't notice I'm gone anyways."
Festus gives in and Leo climbs onto his back. He looks around one last time. He was going to miss this place. He shook his head. Remember, keep moving, don't stay in one place too long.
He flicked Festus reins and flew into the night, leaving the place that finally felt like home to him.
Piper
Leo had been acting weird lately. He was silent when he was usually chatty. He has worn more long-sleeved shirts and distanced himself from us. I tried approaching Jason about it but, he brushed it off as Leo had a big project to get done. I reached out to Leo but he acted like nothing was wrong.
As I was walking to Bunker 9 to get Leo for dinner I heard the sound of metal creaking and a flap of wings. I looked up and saw a dark form flying through the sky. I assumed it was a dragon that hid in the forest stretching its wings. But as I opened the door to Bunker 9, I didn't hear the familiar sound of Leo working. I walked in and saw nothing. I looked around and found a letter that made my heart shatter. I gripped the letter and ran out of the bunker towards the dining pavilion. I spotted Jason and ran to him shoving the letter into his hands. Tears streamed down my face as I watch his face morph into looks of confusion, pain, and horror. He looks at me, in shock.
"Did he leave?" He asks his voice full of fear and guilt.
I nod and he wraps his arms around me. I look up.
"We-we need to tell the others." I stutter through the tears
Jason only nods. We make our way to our friends. Hazel sees me and knows something's up.
"What's wrong, guys? You look like you lost someone." Percy says. This throws me into another fit of sobs that wrack my body. Annabeth punches Percy then comes to comfort me.
"What happened, Piper? We can't fix it if you don't tell us."
Jason hands her the letter that has gained a few stray tears. Her eyes skip over the words and her expression melts into pain. She then passes the letter to the other demigods who all have similar faces.
"Why-why would he do this?!" Hazel cries.
She states the question that is in everybody's head.
We tell Chiron after dinner and he sends out search parties. We search every inch other the woods and come back empty-handed.
Third Person
The next morning camp is silent. The Hephaestus campers are quiet and trying to track their brother. Harley is heartbroken and won't talk. Piper has tear tracks crossing her face. Hazel's eyes are red. Annabeth is sniffling. Jason has bags under his eyes. Frank feels crushing guilt and can barely speak. Percy can't stop his hands from shaking. Leo's leaving has affected everyone, even though he thought it was for the better. But that was three years ago...
