Why Say Goodbye?

The windows were open in the bright white room. Only the sound of the curtains fluttering along the winds, the ruffling leaves from the trees, the often chirps of the birds, and the constant beeping from the machinery were heard. It was an early morning of a new day, people were still asleep. The cold breeze lingered around the quiet planet.

"Huh..I feel different..." Hinata thinks to himself, looking over and over at his limbs, checking if there was something wrong with them. As he turns to his left, he sees the love of his life. "Huh? Kageyama?" Hinata stares at the sleeping man, his head buried between his crossed arms, having a melancholic expression in his eyes as his mind bursts with thoughts of his lover. Slowly, he approaches Kageyama's hand and touches it, wondering if it was real.

Subsequently, the black-haired guy wakes up, He raises his head, surprised to see who was lying in front of him. "Hinata?" Even he wasn't sure what was real anymore. "Hinata?!" He exclaims.

"Strange.." The orange-haired teenager wonders, not minding Kageyama's question. He intertwines their hands and weirdly enough, feels something he has never felt before. "...It's like......we're connected...??"

Kageyama eyes widen, later squinting as he smiles widely. "Yeah...we are....." His tightens his hold. "Recently, I'd gotten a check-up..."

"Check-up?" Hinata pondered over as to what he was talking about.

"'Fate' can be changed. Now you're....now we're officially Alpha & Omega...by that I mean, we're destined mates!" Kageyama smiles, making the smaller male reminisce about Kageyama, how rarely his wide, angelic, and sincere smiles happen. Because of that, before he knew it, a tear dropped from the corner of his eye.

"Eh? Eh? W-weird.....I'm crying..." He speaks and clearly confused. Hinata doesn't even ask about how those kinds of check-ups were done. He was just really happy, too happy for words.

At the sight, Kageyama smiles with his lips, his white teeth fading away from Hinata's memories. "Yeah....."

This shocked Hinata. It made him think how dumb he was for always faking his smiles whenever the topic of his illness would emerge. Because now, he was looking at Kageyama doing the same. "...Yeah." He also brings a curve to his lips. The earlier eyes wet from tears, now dried up and reddish in colour.

The bitter smiles from the both of them would have given sadness to heaven's angels, if there were. The shattered memories and broken hearts that they had held on to—-would have been enough to bring gods on their knees, to regret for breaking them apart.

A gush of wind flew past them. Simultaneously, flashbacks of their time together played and was in a constant rewind.

'You know...I hate separations. I hate them a lot..'

'Dumbass.'

'....hahaha...yeah..'

'I didn't know....I didn't know......'

I really didn't know that you were suffering., Kageyama thought to himself as everything that happened floods his head. Remembering everything that Hinata had told him. Hating himself for not realizing it sooner that he was already having troubles with his body.

'I'm sorry...'

'SHUT UP!!!'

'WE DON'T KNOW!!'

'Tell me you'll stay...'

One by one, they all went back to him. One last time. One last time he'll see him. And that would be it. It's hard to take it in. Even harder to face the harsh reality waiting for him after this. Kageyama clenched his fists so much he was shaking. He gritted his teeth as he looked down, trying to hold things in for a while. He tried to focus but he can't. It was all just too much.  He wished the whole happenings would make him go mad and go insane so he could just escape it. But no, it's not fabricated, none of this is.

Hinata stands up and drags his feet until he reaches the window and looks at the scenery beyond. It takes a while for him before he looks right back at Kageyama and later, walking towards him. Hinata inhales, and exhales, then positions himself beside the person who seemed tall, even when he was not sitting upright.

Kageyama takes a deep breath, stopping his mouth from shaking any further. "It's time for you to go...isn't it...?" He asks, his voice, a little near cracking. You hate separations, don't you? If so, why don't you stay?

Hinata's caught by surprise. He didn't think Kageyama would realize it sooner. He's silent for a moment, then later smiled with his lugubrious eyes, humming a response. "Mm." The small teen looks at a pale body, lying on the bed in front of him with closed eyes and pursed lips, a deep slumber it won't ever wake up from. After looking one more time, Hinata looks down, hanging his head.

"I'll miss you." Kageyama says, facing forward, his hands clenching on his pants as the loud silence rang in his ears. "...kgh..." He swallows down. Another silent moment. "Hey..Shouyou.." Kageyama calls out, holding his head high and looks at his orange-haired lover, facing his head to the side. Meanwhile, Hinata also looks up. "...I love you..." He lets the words flow out from his mouth as a tear dropped.

And as if it was a dream or some kind of mirage, he sees Hinata's lips move.

I love you.

He inaudibly states.

From a wider perspective, it is shown Kageyama grieving beside Shouyou Hinata's bed. Crying and coughing loudly, no signs showed of his tears ever coming to a halt. His hands roughly holding on to the blanket covering the corpse of his beloved from head to toe. His body shaking and cold, cringing from the emotional pain he was experiencing. His heart.....its condition, worse than a treasured ancestral medallion broken into a million pieces. And Hinata's silhoutte, gone from Kageyama's side, from then on and until the end his time.
