She pulled the boy close and whispered into his ear.
"Do you understand?"
He grinned, nodding. "I can get them."
She paid him quietly.
"In addition, go buy me an ink-stone, some wax, and some cloth."
"Find her!" A guard hollered, running passed their hiding place.
She paused. There wasn't much time.
"You can keep the rest of the money. Now, go. Hurry."
The boy beamed, taking the money and darting away.
With that, she waited. Once he was gone a safe distance away, she straightened and stepped out onto the road.
"I'm here." She called calmly, revealing herself to her minders. "What's the problem here?"
They exchanged a meaningful look.
"Our lord grows impatient." The first said. "He wants to see progress on his painting soon."
"Give me three days." Hana told him. "It will be done in three days. I'll work by sun and candlelight to make sure it's done in time. I promise."

She ran through darkness.
("Do not disturb me for three days." She had told them with no room for argument. "Let no one enter or leave except for the young boy who assists me.")
Tonight was the night of freedom.
(She didn't have an assistant. She paid a boy to pretend with the money given to buy paints. She didn't think it would work, plans seldom work perfectly, but it did and now——)
She laughed, dancing as her hair fluttered behind her like dark ribbons.
She was free.
She turned around.
Fire burned in the distance, flames creeping into the sky like strokes of red paint.
The wind made them burn brighter.
"I've painted the sky." She said breathlessly.
The glow on the horizon was beautiful.
She watched the castle burn.

"What do you mean she's dead?" The strange priestess, who wore even stranger clothing, asked.
"She must have collapsed in exhaustion while painting." The guard said. "She told me that she'd paint by sun and candlelight. A candle must've fallen while she slept."
