We were all sat around, listening to Jimin, Jungkook and Tae joking. The truth was, I didn't want to talk to Yeji, and I barely knew Yuri. I felt Jungkook squeeze my shoulder and he pulled me slightly closer to him. I was concerned about the girls getting suspicious but they barely seemed to notice.
Then I realised why. Jungkook and I had always hugged and been physically close. Why would this be any different.
"You ok?" Jungkook asked. I looked at his handsome face and smiled.
"Why wouldn't I be? Don't ask silly questions." I said. "Can I have a top up?" I shook my glass at him and he leaned over to pick up the wine. He poured me another glass and I sipped it slowly.
"Uh, y/n. Can we talk?" It seemed like Yeji had finally torn her eyes away from Tae long enough to notice I was there.
"Sure." I replied flatly. I knew what this would be about and I didn't really want to have the conversation. She kissed Tae on the cheek and stood up. I slowly got to my feet and followed her out of the room.
She leaned against the door awkwardly and played with her fingers.
"About the other night." She started.
"It's cool Yeji. I was bound to notice eventually. Truth is, I didn't notice because Jungkook has always been there. I didn't ever need anyone else." I folded my arms and stared her down.
"No. No. It's. I hope I didn't upset you. I didn't mean to say it like that. I was very drunk." She moved some hair away from her face.
"It's fine Yeji. I'm over it. Jungkook brought me home and cheered me up anyway. That's why he's my best friend." I shrugged slightly. I wanted to make it clear I didn't need her, anyone else, or their stupid opinions.
"No. Y/n. I meant to say everyone is jealous of you." She sighed. "You've got Jungkook wrapped around your finger, and by extension, Tae and Jimin too."
"Huh?" I wasn't following.
"They're his friends. They spent the whole night at the party looking for you, until Jungkook found you. Jimin hugs you every time he sees you. Tae treats you like his little sister." She explained.
"I never really thought about it. I grew up with them. It's normal in my world." I said thoughtfully. "Besides. It's not like I ever stopped anyone talking to them, or tried to scare anyone off."
"But that's the thing, you're always going to be a threat. Because JK would do anything for you. Tae and Jimin would do anything for him, so you're always a priority." She wasn't making the situation any better.
"Look Yeji. Can we just stop talking about it? I don't want this to turn into a massive thing. You're with Tae, Yuri is clearly here with Jimin, and I'm hanging with my best friends. That's all there is to it. Also you can tell any other girl who asks, they're welcome to talk to, approach or date them." Apart from Jungkook, I thought.
"OK, OK. But." She bit her lip. "Are we cool?"
"Of course Yeji. It was a drunken comment. I'm not gonna hold it over you." I lied. Truth was, I wouldn't hold it against her, but I wouldn't be as close to her as I was.
"Thanks y/n! You're the best." We exchanged smiles and headed back in to the room. Everyone had clearly been anticipating a fight from us.
"Everything OK ladies?" Tae asked.
"Since when did you start referring to me as a lady?" I scoffed.
"Since you started dressing like one." He retorted.
"I've got no need to dress up when there's no one important to impress." I quipped.
"So what's your excuse now?"
