Destined for love

I entered the backseat of the man's monster truck, careful not to get any of the soft, velvety interior wet.
"Why are you sitting back there, darlin'?"
He questioned with a half smirk on his face. He motioned for me to accompany him in the passenger seat, to which I obliged.

As I sat next to him I felt my awkwardness seep into the truck, so I tried to make a pitiful attempt at conversation.
"T-this is a really nice truck you got here... sir..." I said, twirling my hair in-between my fingers.

He chuckled as he recognized my face turning a bright red.
"My lord, youngin! For a second I thought I was sittin' next to a tomato!"
He let out a hearty laugh and pat my shoulder, which made the butterflies in my stomach flutter.
"The names' Darrell, but most people 'round here just call me Grandpa."

"Alright, my name is y/n. Thank you so much for helping me out! I thought I was a goner."
He swooshed his fluffy white hair away from his face, making me swoon over him even more.
"Ah, it's really no problem. I help a lotta folks on this highway, it really makes my day,"
He went on as he started the engine and drove off in the direction of his shop.
"Sometimes one little act of kindness can make a huge change in someone's life."
He let out a small smile and looked over to me, making short eye contact.

For a second I had a chance to admire his dreamy, hazel eyes. The ambiance of the rain only added to the impact his kind words had on me. He really did have a huge impact on my life.
He could've just drove by, leaving me stranded, and I never would have met him.
