"Diseases?"
KY POV

My car went to a complete stop once I parked in front of ZoZo Burgers. I walked towards the place and entered in.

I looked around the tables, searching for a familiar face; I caught a well-manicured hand flying in the air waving me down. It was my mother with a bright smile on her face.

I walked towards the table, and she embraced me in a hug, but almost immediately, she let go, given that I went a little frigid once the arms wrapped around my body. She backed away a little and gave me a nervous look.

"How are you, hon?"

"I'm alive, you?" I asked with a monotone voice.

"I have to say; I'm doing well given that you agreed to have dinner with me." She said while sitting down.

I nodded my head while saying nothing.

"Although, I would have picked another restaurant to go to, of course." She claimed while observing the place in minor disgust.

"What, not much of your taste?" I teasingly joked.

"Not exactly,"

I scoffed and cut my eyes knowing that this was the last place that my mom would have picked. She would have most likely chosen a high-end restaurant that cost $100.00 a plate that was not even a full serving size.

This was the only reason I would agree to meet with her because, If anything, I tried to stay away from anything that had to do with their life, including fancy restaurants.

"So, what's new? I want to hear everything."

"There's not much to tell, honestly."

"Well, how's racing going for you?"

"It's fine," I claimed while taking a sip of water.

"Just fine? I heard that you won a pretty big race just the other day."

"How do you know that?" I asked while putting my glass down.

"Well, I can't help the little conversations that I hear from the people around this little town, and besides, I ran into that sweet friend of yours Ricky in the store the other day, and he told me all about it."

"Mmmh, interesting."

"Yeah, well, that's what, 7 wins since you started, right?"

"Yeah, it is...?" I questioned slowly and shockingly.

"Well, don't look so surprised."

"I'm just surprised you know how many wins, given your not around much."

"Well, I pay attention even if it's just a little." She said lightly, placing her hand over mine.

For the first time, I didn't shrug the touch of her hand; the gesture was welcomed, even returned with a slight smile from myself.

"Alright, now you have to tell me what to order because I'm starving." She said while looking at the menu.

"I have about a handful of good dishes I can suggest," I said while looking at the menu, then to her.

"Perfect hit with me, your first one!" She ethusacitacally said.

                                                                                                     ~

"Can I get these plates out of your way, darling?" Rosanna came around checking on us.

"Yes, please!" Patricia said while covering her mouth with a napkin.
