Vortigern hears and sees a dream that his wife will marry his nephew after his death by his hand and union between them will create children who will bring a greater dynasty across Britannia. He woked up from his nightmare in his bed with his wife laying with him. He could not help but be conflicted despite having a daughter with her. His wife is a powerful mage and a kind one. She received blessings from the holy grail after drinking the blood of Jesus Christ when she was weakened after giving birth to her child named Catia. The blessings increased her life span and expands her powers. Her body was blessed as goddess so that no weapon or magic could ever kill her. However this does not apply to Catia since the blessing did not reach her which foretold Vortigern that his line in his daughter Catia will die with her which shocked him since he has currently has no son unlike his brother Uther.

So let's get on with the main story.
Centuries ago in the Dark Ages, the evil mage Mordred (Rob Knighton) sought great power through the use of dark magic. Mordred and his army make their way to Camelot and begin laying waste to the kingdom of Britain as they ride on the backs of massive war elephants. King Uther Pendragon (Eric Bana) leads his own army against Mordred's forces. Uther rides his horse to reach Mordred's stronghold while wielding his mighty sword Excalibur. With one swing, Uther slays Mordred and puts an end to his reign of terror. Uther's brother Vortigern, found a chest near Mordred's corpse, when he opened it up, he found a heart, not just any heart, a dragon heart from Albion which gives user a power and transformation to permanent dragon which might enable him to become a beast of Calamity. He hid this heart in his pouch from his brother and might use it as a last resort for his power over Great Britain in case it is deemed necessary. He found a super strong potion that puts someone into eternal slumber until a true love kiss breaks the spell. He planned to put it on his wife, since he could not bring himself to sacrifice her to the Syrens to gain power of demon knight, not to mention she was protected by holy grail's blessing which prevents her from being sacrificed.

Soon after, Uther's brother Vortigern (Jude Law) leads a coup against Uther and the kingdom. Vortigern takes his wife Elsa (Katie McGrath) to his bedroom and drugs her to eternal slumber with the potion. He puts her body in the stone coffin which prevents her from waking up, but the grail blessing made her comfortable to sleep in but enhance her eternal beauty. He takes one of his trusted commander named Pellinore (Gary Oldman) underground to a pit where he apologizes and kills him to achieve a stronger form of a demon knight from the Syrens. Uther gets his wife Igraine (Poppy Delevignge) and young son Arthur out of the castle as Vortigern's minions, the Blacklegs, are closing in on them. As the villains begin causing chaos throughout the kingdom, Uther brings Igraine and Arthur by the docks. A figure approaches the family and hurls a spear at Igraine, killing her.  He put his wife's stone coffin into mage tower since he could not bring himself to kill her to gain the power of demons from sirens since his wife was one of the last mages and she was blessed with magic. It doesn't not help that his vision shows wife was destined to marry his nephew after his death by Arthur's hands and birth his children that helped to create a strong dynasty because she showed affection to Arthur. Let's not forget that she was blessed by holy grail after drinking it, extended her life force and keeping her youthful self and preventing her body from harm by magic or weapon. He created a magical barrier which not only protects Elsa, but halted her time, preventing her from aging. In the last moment before being put in a spell, she sends part of her magic to help Arthur during his journey and mentor him in his dreams. She requests one of her closest friends the Mage who was training with Merlin to keep an eye on Arthur. She finally sleeps in the coffin and waits for the right moment for a rightful king to wake her up with true love kiss.

Young Arthur is sent to the capital city of Londinium and is taken in to be raised in a brothel. As he grows older, Arthur spends his time on the streets, getting into trouble with other children and picking fights with those that harass him. As an adult (now played by Charlie Hunnam), Arthur grows stronger and more cocky and has made friends with Rubio (Freddie Fox) and Percival (Craig McGinlay)
