As I walked into my house the atmosphere was dull and depressing I walk into the kitchen Peter had his head in his hands and mother was crying what is going on?,
"What's wrong?"
I didn't get a proper answer just hand gesture from peter pointing to the calendar,
Oh no, 17th February, dad's death date how could I forget, of course I didn't forget I knew it was coming up but I didn't want to be sad just move on from it ignore it all together,
Though it was a really hard day for peter and mum, Peter didn't do anything except blame himself for months and guiltily so did i for a while, that night he died was horrible for peter...

One year ago:

"Be a man get in there and apologise!" Dad pushed peter through the front door roughly it was late, it hadn't been long since mum had walked through that door herself alone that was what father had been mad at Peter about since he was meant to pick her up from work that day,
"I'm sorry aunt may I Uh-" peter stuttered on his words trying for a proper apology,
"You don't have to apologise to me-"
"Like hell he doesn't!" Dad was proper mad he was always protective over mother especially since they got older and the streets more dangerous,
"Look I'm sorry uncle Ben.." peter was now apologising to dad whilst I stood close to mum watching it all unfold,
"I- I got distracted-"
"Oh he got distracted!"
"Yeah"
"Your aunt, y/n's mother, my WIFE had to walk 12 blocks alone in the middle of the night and wait In a deserted subway station because YOU got distracted"
Mum had interrupted as father was getting mad and on the verge of yelling,
"Ben sweetheart honestly I am completely capable of walking home-" she didn't get to finish before dad had raised his voice higher,
"You do NOT defend this boy!"
"I'm not defending him!"
"YOU are defending him!"
I interrupted this time trying to calm everyone down,
"Dad calm down-"
"Stay out of this y/n!!" He turned to peter,
"You listen to me son!"
"Yeah go ahead." Peter replied cooly
"You you're a lot like your father..." I looked at him shocked not expecting him to bring up uncle Richard,
"You really are and that's a good thing.." he was more calm now but I could clearly see Peter was on edge from the mention of his fathers name,
"But your father lived by a philosophy- a principal really, he believed that if you could do good things for other people you had a moral obligation to DO those things..." it went quiet but not for long he carried on putting a hand on peters shoulder,
"That's what's at stake here.. NOT choice... responsibility..." mum and I was looking from father to peter back and forth finally peter spoke up,
"That's nice.. that- that's great it's uh it's all well and good so where is he?" I looked at peter pleading for him not to say what he was going to say but to no avail,
"Where is he? Where's my dad? He didn't think it was his responsibility to be here and tell me this himself?"
Father's face hardened at stared at peter in the face,
"Oh come on how dare you!"
Peters voice raised, he was angry on the verge of tears,
"How dare I? HOW DARE YOU"
He went to leave opening the door angrily I grabbed his arm tears in my eyes begging,
"Pete? Pete please don't leave me"
"Peter where you going? Peter come back here please" father was trying to get him to stay but Peter didn't listen to him he looked me in the eyes I stared back still holding onto his arm,
"Pete? Please.. stay"
His face softened a lot just looking at me,
"I'm sorry (your nickname) I'm really sorry" he turned away from me my hand slipping away from his arm and slammed the door shattering the glass.

Few minutes had passed no one spoke I looked from the ground at my dad with pleading eyes,
"I'm going after him"
I went to leave but my father held me back grabbing his coat,
"I'll go" I stared at him and smiled a little hugging him,
"Thank you" I let go and he exit,
"Stay with your mother I love you"
I didn't say it back tho I just let him, leave why didn't I say it back?

*end of flashback*

I went over and sat next to Peter putting my head around him soothing him rubbing his back gently whispering lightly,
"It's okay it'll be okay".

I went to my room as soon as possible not wanting to be around company right now a ding rang from my phone is was Gwen, how did she get my number? I didn't care right now though I didn't want to speak to anyone i threw my phone on the bed and climbed onto it hugging my knees playing loud music,
"I love you too dad..." I whispered to myself as if it was that day all over again as if I actually said it back to him before he left.

1 hour later
My phone dinged again I picked it up and messaged Gwen,
'Hey y/n I was wondering if you were free'
'It's okay if not'
- 'hey Gwen it's okay meet me on the school roof top in 20 minutes'
She saw the message and put a thumbs up I got up grabbed my skateboard and road to the school wind in my hair, mum didn't bother to stop me even though I was grounded it wasn't her top priority at these times,

She was already there at the time I stared at her a while before sitting down next to her over the edge, she looked at me and frowned,
"Are you okay? You've been crying"
I wiped my face of left over tears and smiled,
"Yeah it's just... it's my fathers one year death day today" she looked at me with not pity or sympathy but caring eyes,
"It's a hard day for everyone"
She nodded and put her arm around me I leaned against her and we watched the sunset, no talking just enjoying each other's company sitting and watching as the birds flew peacefully and sun set gracefully.
