-HER-

Without thinking much, I clutched my skirt and ran after him. I soon found Romulus chasing Godwick's presumably dead servant out in the open backyard of the factory under the moonlight. The night when I first met him was replaying again in front of my eyes. Only this time, I wasn't hiding in the bushes and Romulus' top hat was missing. I was almost reliving the moment as Romulus took out his revolver and pointed it at the servant.

I watched, holding my breath as he stopped running briefly and fired at the servant. Just like that night, there was no noise of the bullet leaving the gun, only a clicking noise before the servant fell to the ground with a thud. The time stopped for a few seconds as Romulus and I waited for the servant to move but he remained still.

Was he really dead this time?

Unlike the last time when I was trying to get out of the scene without attracting any attention from Romulus, I started edging closer to the Servant's dead body. My eyes were too focused on his body, expecting him to move that I didn't watch my steps and ended up tripping over my feet before falling to the ground... just like last time.

As I got up, I saw him advancing towards the dead body and bending down to take something out of his hand. Instead of running away like last time, I edged closer to him while carefully eyeing the dead body. As I finally reached up to him, he straightened up with something in his hand.

His face looked so grave and pensive and he examined the object for a moment. As I stepped in a bit closer, I was able to see that it was a long triangular piece of metal.

"What is that?" I asked him. At this, he pocked the thing and looked at me before answering, "The key,"

My lips formed an 'o', meanwhile, Romulus looked down at the dead body for once before he took out his revolver once again and shot at its head thrice before grabbing my arm. "Let us get out of here now," He muttered to himself as he led me out of that place. I glanced at the servant's dead body for once last time, not knowing what to think of it. How did he manage to be alive after being shot that night?

Was he not a human as well?

While I was deep in my head thinking about these things, I had failed to notice that Romulus and I had reached into the main part of the factory where there was a war going on previously. I snapped out of my thoughts due to the noise there. The floor was covered with blood. The fighting had stopped. Romulus' men seemed to have the whole place under their control now. I noticed that they had taken some of the people from the factory captive as well.

I tried my best to not look at the dead bodies while Romulus instructed his men on what they needed to do next. While he was doing so, I noticed Filth coming out of the crowd. He was stained in blood as well and the blood against his pale skin looked much more vibrant and gory. That's the point when I finally started to feel a bit sick to the stomach. Fortunately, Romulus was done talking to his men before he headed out of the factory with Filth. I followed the two, as usual.

"Take me to the Night Court," I heard Romulus say as we walked out of the factory.

"Now?" Filth sounded fairly surprised.

"Yes," Romulus almost growled and this got Filth moving soon. I wondered what the Night Court really was and if Romulus would take me there as well. Filth bowed and instantly disappeared, leaving the two of us alone in the courtyard briefly.

"Where are we going?" I asked, stepping by his side. He was standing still, staring at the moon with his hands in the pocket. His body looked oddly tense. Even though he had the key now, he didn't look pleased to have it. I couldn't help but wonder why.

"You'll see," He answered gently.

"So, you're taking me with you?" I asked him carefully. This finally made him glance at me. As the moon cast shadows on half of his face, I saw the rim of his eyries glowing briefly.

"Yes," He answered curtly. By now, Filth had arrived with the carriage. I was surprised to see that there wasn't even a single drop of blood on him or his clothes anymore. Even before I could ask him how he cleaned up so quickly, the carriage stooped in front of us. Romulus flung the door open in a hurry but he helped me inside gently before getting in after me.

"Where are we going?" I asked him as Filth drove out of that place.

"Back to the city," He responded, looking out of the window before taking out the key from his pocket and looking at it. It didn't even look like a key in the first place. I wondered how it was going to open anything. Silence stretched between us as I watched him study the key. By then, we were out of that place and Filth was driving us through the woods.

"Can I look at it too?" I asked him. This made him look at me for a second longer before he handed it to me gently. Our fingers brushed as I took it from him. The cold sensation from the metal travelled up my arm as I looked at the key. It was as big as my pinky finger. It was a very odd shape for a key but upon closer inspection, I noticed some dots raised on the metal in strange patterns.

I felt his eyes on me as I ran my fingers over the dots, trying to see if they formed any letters.

"What does this key open?" I asked him, handing it back to him. I know that I had only gotten vague answers from him previously but still, I just couldn't help but wonder what made this key so important that people were willing to die for it tonight.

"You'll see soon," He replied, pocketing it. The rest of the way, we remained silent. I had almost fallen asleep but I woke up when the Carriage stopped with a jerk. I would have cursed out loud at Filth if Romulus wasn't with me. I was still a bit sleepy as Romulus helped me out of the carriage gently.

"What are we doing here?" I asked him in bewilderment as I looked up at the familiar building of the Bank of England.
