Younger Tim (Still in school)

You sat in the front of the class with your Soc friends, while the Greasers screwed around in the back. They disgusted you. How could they act so snobby all the time? And their hair? Nasty. Plus they kept getting in trouble with the cops.

"Quiet down!" The teacher walked in and all everybody's attention was turned to the chalk board, where he started writing things down. You read Group Project- two people per group.

You sighed, sinking down into your chair. You hated group projects. You never got paired with someone you actually wanted to be with. Plus it seemed you always got stuck with the doing all the work.

One of your friends raised their hand. "Can we chose our own partners this time?"

"No. I will be chosing." Figures. Mr. Banks was an ass teacher anyway. But you'd never tell him that. He thought too highly of you for your actually decent grades.

He walked over to his small bucket labelled Juniors (Grade 11) and shook it. Then he stuck his hand in the bucket and pulled out the first two names.

It was two greasers working together. They seemed pretty pleased with he arrangement. Most of the other pairings weren't awful, just not who the people hoped for.

Then came your name. You waited to hear who you'd be partnered with.

"Tim Shepard."

You resisted the urge to cry out in frustration. You've got to be kidding me, you thought angrily. Couldn't it be literally anyone but him?

Tim didn't seem to be pleased with the arrangement either. He sat at his desk, glaring at you as you walked over.

"Well I guess this is going to be how it is for the next week or so. Suck it up because it's not changing. And trust me, I don't like it either Tim."

"How can you be sure it won't change? I'll talk to Mr. Banks after class. I'm not gonna be stuck with some freaking Soc. You, of all Socs. Maybe I could deal with Sarah. Not you."

What an ass, you thought. He couldn't even try to get along with you for the sake of the project? This man was going to make your grade decline. You knew he wasn't going to try to help at all.

It was going to be a lonnnggg week.

"Are you at least going to attempt to help?" You questioned angrily, throwing down the ruler you had been using.

"I'm thinking no. You yelled at me earlier for doing it wrong anyway."

"You were writing it too small! Plus you made it look dreary. Where is the color?"

"Color ain't important! Just the information! God, why did I have to do this stupid thing with you."

"With? Your literally doing nothing!"

"Because you have to have everything your way! You're such a goddamn perfectionist!"

You glared at him for a moment. Then started grinning.

"Oh what the he'll is wrong with you now." he muttered.

You walked over to him and placed the pencil and ruler in his hands then sat down.

"Fine. You're right. I'll admit that. But can you actually do half as good as a perfectionist can?"

"You just said you didn't want me working on this thing."

"Well I changed my mind. Get to work, Tim."

He huffed at you, but turned to the poster anyway and started drawing. You sat back and watched, amused by the amount of whining and groaning that was coming from his mouth.

After sitting there and letting him work for about half an hour, he set down his stuff and turned around.

"Come check if it's up to your standards." He mocked.

You got up and walked over, looking down. He had tried to draw a man it seemed. But you couldn't make out who. The man had the face of an ape and pouted at you from the poster.

You couldn't help the sound that escaped you. You started to laugh uncontrollably. Tim grinned and started laughing too.

"I see why you think I suck at this." He snorted.

"What even is that?" You questioned, a few little giggles still finding their way out of your mouth.

"To be honest, I'm not sure myself. I started out with George Washington."

"That is not George Washington."

"I'm gonna call him ape man." He smiled at you.

And then you realized. You had just laughed with a Greaser. You had thought he was funny too. You enjoyed it. It seemed he had just registered this too.

You stared at each other for a few seconds, debating whether to start fighting with each other again or not.

"For a Soc you're not that bad." He finally stated. "I think some of this rivalry stuff is kind of stupid anyway."

"I agree. Besides, even I'll admit it, you're a pretty funny guy, Tim. So...."

"Are we friends now?"

"I guess, yeah."

"Hm. Okay. Ape-man approves of this." He said pointing to the smile on his drawings face.

You grinned.
