Introduction

"Welcome all to the city of Euphoria"

Hello! Thanks for checking out my short story. I've been working on it for a while, so I really hope you enjoy it. If you don't like introduction-y things, feel free to scroll straight ahead. If you want to learn more about my inspiration and writing process, you're in luck!

First of all, when I say this story is based of Harrison Bergeron, I mean that was the prompt. My first draft was a six page long scifi story I wrote in eighth grade for my language arts class. Id heard of Kurt Vonnegut before and was super excited to read one of his works. The idea was to create a dystopian society and alter the first line of HB for use in our story. "The year was 2081 and everybody was finally equal" became "The year was 2090 and Earth was finally pure". The rest of the story was up to us! I've altered my work a lot since.

I was absolutely jazzed that our prompt was scifi dystopian, as that's always been my favorite genre. I love the bizarre and unheard of technology, the futuristic setting, and most of all the deep dive into what's wrong with our society and sometimes the human mind itself. There's so much blinding creativity behind the best dystopian pieces, and I want to mirror that as well as possible.
