It was the summer break

and I was busy cleaning up.

This literally was for my sake,

Everything seemed so messed up.

I was working ever since morning,

T'was a really important mission,

No muttering or sighing,
had a relentless determination.

Well, that was a task at hand,

At least that's what I assumed.

Discarding old things isn't simple,

I had to conclude.

First I took them out,

Segregated in  neat heaps and piles,

Then looked over the lot,

Clothes, books, toys and files.

The world of toys beckoned me,

stuffed animals, dolls, cars and games,

Reminding of times that were carefree,

Of innocent smiles and silly nicknames.

Costumes, meddles and certificates,

Took me back to school days.

Books, newspapers and magazines,

Report cards and fancy themes.

A class photo that was faded

Recollecting teachers and classmates,

From toppers to last benchers,

Matching names to faces.

Vacations were a grand affair,

Persuing hobbies or travelling to different places,

Although exams were a scare,

Everyone passed in sports and races.

Fairwell was a day to remember,

Everybody seemed to mourn it,

Nobody wanted to leave school,

With a heavy heart, besties bid.

Currier knocked on our doors,

Now the compitition began,

A whole new world to behold,

Bring a change, if you can.

Vaste scope of oppertunities,

as many as there were threts,

With so many universities,

This was one hell of a quest.

There were more surprises,

Much more kept in store

Managing work at our work desks,

Making new ties and much more.

My eyes catch an envelope,

Turning it this way and that,

It made me smile with hope,

A pay check, that was fat.

Working for corporations wasn't easy,

But I made it through somehow,

My reputation preceded me,

Sincerity and hardwork paid off.

Last but not the least,

My hands clasped around the locket,

reminded me of my family in the east,

That's where my duties now rested.

With a resigned sigh,

Get back to the task,

Feeling for the times gone by,

decide to let go at last.

Finally I come to understand,

A precious place they hold.

One in my heart and mind,

I'd peered into my mind's wardrobe.
